So I guess McNamee was telling the truth about Clemens wife, just not Clemens.

McNamee lied about Clemens, but told the truth about Pettite, Knoblauch and Clemens wife.

Personally, I am glad someone is stepping in and trying to get a handle on it. People have sold themselves out for a whole lot less than all the big money contracts in pro-sports. Who's gonna tell his or her kid not to take steroids to become a big money athlete? And we know the players Union doens't want to do anything about it. There is still a LONG ways to go in getting rid of it in pro-sports, thereby getting rid of it in Highschool sports. A lousy pitcher with a 5+ ERA is making $2 million a year. If steroids can make you wealthy who's gonna reject it? Look at other illegal drugs and all they do is get ya high. But there's a huge market fot it.

I agree someone should step in, but not CONGRESS! The players union or Bud Selig need to deal with this, not taxpayer money. As far as kids being influenced by these athletes, where are there parents? Let's blame everyone but them. "My child is a drug addict because of this athlete" Horsecrap. Parents should do their job as a parent and crack skulls when skulls need to be cracked.

I'm not directing anything at you Crew, so please don't take that the wrong way, but this stuff really irks me.

Where was all this concern for taxpayer
funds while the Justice Dept was spending
a fortune and 2 YEARS trying to convict Bonds?
 What goes around comes around.
I say fry them both.

Not taking it personally, so don't worry about it. Your feelings are your feelings. Parents are just as culpable. Not blaming the kids solely but a parent with a kid who's got some talent would be just as tempted. We're talking about enough money to live comfortably for the rest of ones life.

I'm in total agreeance there. I used to go to my nephew's soccer and basketball games when they were stationed here. Some of these parents are out of their mind, and I wouldn't put the scenario you've brought up past them. Kinda sad if you think about it.

As for Bonds, I felt the same way then as I do now.

I think I might have been the one crying the loudest about Barry Bonds. IMHO........you gotta put Roger right up there with him.

I also was probably one of the loudest voices about congress wasting our money on the investigations and hearings. But I was reminded by a lawyer friend that cases like these will eventually lead to laws pertaining to all red tape that you have to go through to punish a player. The players union has been trying to block the league at every turn when it comes to drug policies.

So in the end............it could be a good thing.

But why does congress always find the time to look into trivial matters when there is a war on, and 20 million illegals running amuck?

I agree with you there John. The answer is Career Politics. They do what won't cost them any votes come election time. They don't go after the illegals because their "legal" brethern won't cast their vote for them.

Not to get off track but it's a lil more
complicated then that. The biggest
lobby for keeping illigal immigrants is
american buisnesses. All you have to
do is go to any customer service
type buisness to realize that. It's not
them stopping reform...it's us.;)

You ask why congress is involved?
Because of the tax payers money.
Don't think for one reason its not important.
You guys don't actually think that all those big fancy stadiums are built from privet money. That's tax payers money. Money that we pay for better schools, roads and nicer parks.
But some how we the tax payers and fans seem to ok the use of that money for stadiums. Then baseball just proved that they can't manage their own ranks. Congress for one is trying to keep baseball clean.
If Congress turns a blind eye, then they would be doing the fan a disservice.
Lets connect the dots here. Look at all the athletes going down because of this. This is just the beginning. Remember, illegal drugs are the topic here, then soon everything involved with it will come to lite or cut off. You guys know, like kids doing steroids, drug dealing, money laundering, cheating, dirty baseball, oh wait and the waisting of our tax dollars.
There is no difference in Congress getting involved in the airlines or our Pro sports. Both are and American institution and are more important to our economy than we think.

I read an on-line article about the Rocket yesterday that had the headline:
"Clemens is either innocent or stupid".

Guess which one I'm picking?

If Bonds goes down, so should Clemens. Perjury is perjury!

As for congress, yes it's a waste and there is much they could investigate besides Baseball (like Haliburton), but like what was said before, career politics gets in the way. This kind of stuff makes me want term limits more and more!

And well said Sandtrout

I said it before and I will say it again. Almost everybody was using some kind of enhancement drug. This will never end until we find out all and purge them from sports or .......we just get over it. Personally I can care less. But if we are going to care then serious people are going to have to get involved and a lot of people are going to have to go down.

Is it a waste of money? Probably so for working men/women like you and me but for people that make the decisions in this country it seems not.(politics)

I care FL. I like Baseball among other sports. Even if "everyone" were doing it making it even you still take away from the integrity of the game. You make what the althelets are doing un-real thereby making the game unattractive to me at least. I'd rather see a bunch of semi-pro guys put on the pro-uniforms and play the game, then a bunch of pro's that are juiced.

I don't really care either way as long as it does not affect my tax rebate check. Got plans for that.....

Look...lets face it...all this jibberish is just that...jibberish! When it's all said and done, there will be NO conclusions drawn and Congress won't be able to do crap! They should be concentrating on the really important stuff... like what's the latest with Brittney, should she be hospitalized or committed involuntarily, should she be allowed to keep her kids, should her bond be raised, etc! Let's get back to keeping this country on track and monitoring these celebraties! If we don't do it, "People" Magazine will take the place of the NY Times, and then where would we be? If Brittney is not performing and earning millions, then that means she's not paying taxes, which means WE have to make up the difference! What more noble cause can Congress have than getting Brittney back on the tax rolls???

I agree about why are we waisting American Tax dollars for this investigation with the problems our country has. Let Selig if he has any balls investigate and hand out the punishments. I was listening to one of our legislatures talk about a bill called the 'strawberry bill" which our state house and senate spent 3-4 days trying to get this bill passed. The strawberry bill was introduced by a 3rd grade teacher whose class wanted to name the strawberry the state fruit. A senator from eastern north carolina opposed and fought to get the scuppernog grape the state fruit. After 4 days they settled it naming the strawberry the state red fruit, the grape the state purple fruit and so on. When she finished telling this story, which she thought was a funny storry, I told her that the story she told us is probably not a great story to be telling a classroom full of tax payers.
