So with the "Economic stimulus plan" signed by President Bush, what will you be purchasing...if anything?
If you haven't heard, here's what you/we'll be getting...
-----------------------------------------------
According to the stimulus package, individuals who pay income taxes would get up to 600 dollars, working couples 1,200 dollars and those with children an additional 300 dollars per child.
Workers who make at least 3,000 dollars but do not pay taxes would get 300-dollar rebates.
Those making more than 75,000 dollars and couples with income exceeding 150,000 dollars are to get smaller rebates, 50 dollars less per 1,000 dollars they make over those thresholds.

I can imagine some people splurging on a new rod/reel setup, and others needing to buy a new tackle box because they have bought too much tackle! Maybe a new grill? Home upgrades? Lots of BWFB's???;)
One thing I know, is that I'm gonna sit on mine for a while and think it out.
BUT WHAT WILL YOU DO?!?!?!

I've got a very large insurance bill coming up in July and the rebate is already earmarked to help with that obligation.

If I recall properly in 2001 I received the 600$ 'incentive'. Great, get to buy something.
Then when I filed my return that year I had to deduct the 600$ from my normal rebate.
Seemed like a BS stimulus to me as it wa just my own rebate money earlier? Is this the same advance of normal rebate crappola or is it really a separate bonus? :--|

I am seriously thinking about taking part of it and starting a fishing account. That way I can keep track of what I spend on fishing and keep money in there just for fishing.

JC, be careful when you do that. When you start tracking how much you spend for fishing, it gets sad and disgusting real quick.

Ummm ,,,, something from China,,,, might as well,, there is where the money is coming from because we don't have 160 billion to give for the rebate,,,might as well make it a full circle,,,,,, Spending a bunch of money we don have is not the answer,,,,,,,What a dumbasss idea but I guess that is what you get when you elect dumbasss politicans!!!!!!!!!

It's going towards either student loans or our vehicle loan.
I am curious though. If you receive a rebate check, and you don't cash it, do you still get to keep your money for the next tax return. Is this an advance on next year's refund or does it just count as taxable income?

Will spend it all on U.S. made products that would not have bought without it.If all did this it might work as intended.

HR, I see that we're in the same boat. Still using samples right now, but will have to shell out some money soon.

Since our government is borrowing 150 billion dollars from China and other countries we shouldn't be in debt to, in order to jump start our economy, I'd rather put the money aside so my unborn grand children and great grandchildren won't have to pay back so much. What a joke.
Call it what they want, but the old saying that democrats Tax and spend, only shows that republicans borrow and spend. I'm just fed up!

paying off credit card debt, buying kayaking accessories hopefully :)
I'm gonna put it in savings so I can use it to make up for what it screws me on next years tax refund. Thank god this is Bush's last year in office...

JC, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Don't want to risk sticker shock when there's an exact amount attached to it.
For you, you should just say:
Bait: $10
Gas: $40
Fishing gear: $X but spread through many years
Time spent fishing with wife and friends: priceless
