I'm gonna go out on a limb and say you can't go wrong with either. Both are excellent reels. Go with the one that holds more line. Not sure if you can mag the daiwa with out loosing the clicker.
Another reel you might want to look at is the Shimano Speedmaster IV its a little smaller but casts well when magged.

sha50 can be magged without loosing clicker put the static mags on the right side of the frame

i think i'll go with the daiwa because it can be magged,it is cheaper, and i have heard good thing about their drags

I got a Penn 555, could not cast it so I had Ryan at Hatteras Jacks do a knobby mag on it.Tossed a Daiwa last summer and wish I had gotten one of those. With the brakes it does not need to be magged. Plus the Penn drags suck compared to a Daiwa. Any one want to buy a Penn 555???

factory

let me clarify, the sideplate with mag is factory made by penn, but the reel didnt come with that sideplate on it.

ya know as long as I've been on this board I've pretty much agreed with what you had to say but here I gotta say... you ain't had much experience with the Penn drags... Diawa has nothing to compare with the HT100 drags... and I got nothing more to say about that...

Capt Quint, are you fixed on the Penn, or the Daiwa? There are other same size reels on the market, and they are factory magged, excellent clicker, and are priced in some stores at under $110.00 and are probably the same quality as the Penn 555GS, and Daiwa 50. Have a look at the Okuma Contoura CR-453 CS. It has 6.2/1 retrieve, holds 580 yds. of 20# mono

I have fought fish with both Penn 525's and the Daiwa's. I prefer the Daiwa's drag.
