Love fishing mind too,,,, The SX and Mx should cover about anythnig you catch in the surf.... very fishable reels if they have magnets installed

Great surf reel. It has to be the toughest reel for it's tiny size out there. One magnet in mine and it is "blow-up proof" but still cast as far as any other fishing reel I have.

if you're just using it in the surf an SX will do you just fine...
if your gonna target big biters go to the MXJ/L for the larger line capacity...
I have all 6 of mine static magged, and they're all very controllable... excellent drags, very adjustable... you need a scales to set them to their max capacity but once set, they're there...

It's a form of cast control to help reduce "blowups". Use the search function on this site for more details on this. There have been several posts about magging a reel & how magnetic breaking works.

Avet spool = metal
Glue a couple of rare earth mags on the inside of the left sideplate
Magnets will "pull" on the spool, and reduce the speed of the spool on cast, makin it more controlable.
sounds complicated, but its super easy to do, if i can do it , its brainless ;)

Thanks for all info I think I am going with the avet 5.3:1 reel. Now I'm looking at putting the reel on the 10' or 11' daiwa interline rod any thoughs on this combo.
i wonder if the 2spd models would be dandy to play with on the surf.

interline = no good your shock knot might get caught in it and also seaweed will get reeled into the rod

Not really a pull since it works with aluminum and graphite spools that are not magnetic.
A magnetic field with eddy currents creates drag when an electrical conducting material is spun in that field. The higher the RPMs, the more the drag.
Or sumpin like that.;)

Wish I could find that ole post from my ole board that Tommy Wheeler put up there... That thing FULLY EXPLAINED the principles scientificly, but one thing's for sure,no one without a phd in phisics understood it...:D
