There is a great amount of interest in this year’s presidential elections, as everybody seems to recognize that our next president has to be a lot better than George Bush. The Democrats are riding high with two groundbreaking candidates — a woman and an African-American — while the conservative Republicans are in a quandary about their party’s nod to a quasi-liberal maverick, John McCain.
Each candidate is carefully pandering to a smorgasbord of special-interest groups, ranging from gay, lesbian and transgender people to children of illegal immigrants to working mothers to evangelical Christians.
There is one group no one has recognized, and it is the group that will decide the election: the Angry White Man. The Angry White Man comes from all economic backgrounds, from dirt-poor to filthy rich. He represents all geographic areas in America, from urban sophisticate to rural redneck, deep South to mountain West, left Coast to Eastern Seaboard.
His common traits are that he isn’t looking for anything from anyone — just the promise to be able to make his own way on a level playing field. In many cases, he is an independent businessman and employs several people. He pays more than his share of taxes and works hard.
The victimhood syndrome buzzwords — “disenfranchised,” “marginalized” and “voiceless” — don’t resonate with him. “Press ‘one’ for English” is a curse-word to him. He’s used to picking up the tab, whether it’s the company Christmas party, three sets of braces, three college educations or a beautiful wedding.
He believes the Constitution is to be interpreted literally, not as a “living document” open to the whims and vagaries of a panel of judges who have never worked an honest day in their lives.
The Angry White Man owns firearms, and he’s willing to pick up a gun to defend his home and his country. He is willing to lay down his life to defend the freedom and safety of others, and the thought of killing someone who needs killing really doesn’t bother him.
The Angry White Man is not a metrosexual, a homosexual or a victim. Nobody like him drowned in Hurricane Katrina — he got his people together and got the hell out, then went back in to rescue those too helpless and stupid to help themselves, often as a police officer, a National Guard soldier or a volunteer firefighter.
His last name and religion don’t matter. His background might be Italian, English, Polish, German, Slavic, Irish, or Russian, and he might have Cherokee, Mexican, or Puerto Rican mixed in, but he considers himself a white American.
He’s a man’s man, the kind of guy who likes to play poker, watch football, hunt white-tailed deer, call turkeys, play golf, spend a few bucks at a strip club once in a blue moon, change his own oil and build things. He coaches baseball, soccer and football teams and doesn’t ask for a penny. He’s the kind of guy who can put an addition on his house with a couple of friends, drill an oil well, weld a new bumper for his truck, design a factory and publish books. He can fill a train with 100,000 tons of coal and get it to the power plant on time so that you keep the lights on and never know what it took to flip that light switch.
Women either love him or hate him, but they know he’s a man, not a dishrag. If they’re looking for someone to walk all over, they’ve got the wrong guy. He stands up straight, opens doors for women and says “Yes, sir” and “No, ma’am.”
He might be a Republican and he might be a Democrat; he might be a Libertarian or a Green. He knows that his wife is more emotional than rational, and he guides the family in a rational manner.
He’s not a racist, but he is annoyed and disappointed when people of certain backgrounds exhibit behavior that typifies the worst stereotypes of their race. He’s willing to give everybody a fair chance if they work hard, play by the rules and learn English.
Most important, the Angry White Man is pissed off. When his job site becomes flooded with illegal workers who don’t pay taxes and his wages drop like a stone, he gets righteously angry. When his job gets shipped overseas, and he has to speak to some incomprehensible idiot in India for tech support, he simmers. When Al Sharpton comes on TV, leading some rally for reparations for slavery or some such nonsense, he bites his tongue and he remembers. When a child gets charged with carrying a concealed weapon for mistakenly bringing a penknife to school, he takes note of who the local idiots are in education and law enforcement.
He also votes, and the Angry White Man loathes Hillary Clinton. Her voice reminds him of a shovel scraping a rock. He recoils at the mere sight of her on television. Her very image disgusts him, and he cannot fathom why anyone would want her as their leader. It’s not that she is a woman. It’s that she is who she is. It’s the liberal victim groups she panders to, the “poor me” attitude that she represents, her inability to give a straight answer to an honest question, his tax dollars that she wants to give to people who refuse to do anything for themselves.
There are many millions of Angry White Men. Four million Angry White Men are members of the National Rifle Association, and all of them will vote against Hillary Clinton, just as the great majority of them voted for George Bush.
He hopes that she will be the Democratic nominee for president in 2008, and he will make sure that she gets beaten like a drum.

Think what may, but there are many white men that are right in line with that Gary Hubbel article. Wether its good or bad...........it's true.
But keep in mind, that Hubbel is well known for his controversial opinions in alot of his articles.
As for me, there is not one bit off difference between Hillay, Obama, or McCain. I'm sitting out my first election since 1976.

Delete the words "white man" and insert the words "common man". I think a lot of us feel that way, no matter the race, sex or ethnic origin. If you think this only applies to the "white man", you're wrong.

Divisive bull sh*d. Absolute garbage. Since when does the angry white man matter anyway? That non-sense is nothing but politics for the unwary. And for those who don't want to vote because you feel disenfranchised then that is your choice...you have but one vote. (Don't even bore me with the eloquent conversation of the electoral college and delegate votes...yeah, the money mongers rule all of us...who really cares.)
I will vote for the candidate that I think presents the strongest position. That position will:
1. Address inequity with opportunity. No more pandering to race or gender. Ensure that education is paramount so that the next generation will thrive and not merely survive.
2. End bickering between business interests and personal interests. Assess taxation based on the needs of society and not some mombo-jombo econometric non-sense. Trickle down doesn't work anymore than wealth transfer ideals. Taxes are REQUIRED to run a PROGRESSIVE civilized society, those who don't pay get the same treatment that illegal immigrants get...a one way ticket PAST the border.
3. Stop funding wars that are based on fear and alliances that do not pay tribute. Preserve the Second Amendment so that peace-loving, taxpaying citizens own and are willing to defend their own territory. If Europe cannot defend itself then it's unity will fail, this will be there matter not ours.
4. Make being a citizen of the United States something that is once again respected world-wide and do not deny membership to those who are deserving. Closed borders are like closed minds.
It's about that simple to me. Sorry for the rant but that bull SHAT is off base. I'm a proud white male, happy to be bringing up a new generation of pride. For those who feel they are being targeted my advice is to speak with gentle affirmation of what you truly believe and let those who doubt continue to fall behind.
BTW: Pass this law - Every legislator will sign an affidavit that they have read the entire law before they sign it. Hell, if they can't take the time to read it they why should we?
Whew... glad the river is stocked so I can catch some trout tomorrow. :fishing:

OK Peoples...I think we are ALL disinfranschised! We have ALL lost jobs to overseas! Black man, white man. yellow man, it doesn't matter. I signed up the other day for Vonage telephone service! Guess where I called to get hooked up and get everything online and running...The Phillipines!!! And guess what...they were VERY appreciative!!! They even thanked me for the United States investing in their future! I just don't understand it!!! I start a little part-time job tomorrow to help out a friend in a call center GIVING AWAY a vacation package and selling tickets anywhere from 25-50% off theme park tickets IF THEY WANT THEM! No hooks and no catches...no time share tours, etc. This is a job that anyone can do, and it pays $8 an hour or 20% commission, whichever is greater! I refuse to work anything that's a scam, so this is legitimate. Unfortunately, most of these jobs are being farmed out overseas, and those folks who need the jobs are being eliminated! It used to be that a pleasant phone voice was all that was needed, but now, it seems that isn't enough. Unfortunately, there are a very few call centers left here in the US that someone with a GED, etc, can get a job! With my military background, I have always been in management, and it's a shame that there are very few places left for those folks without a college degree. We are loosing our jobs to overseas companies, and you can say what you want about NAFTA, etc, but it's starting to SUCK and those who are barely scraping by are starting to suffer! Sometimes, it boils down to ...well...can I get a job and support my family or do I need to do something else? At the same time, I do not see ANY political candidate, be it Hillary, Barack, John, Mike, and now Ralph, with any kind of an answer. We are faced with the most "lackluster" candidates we have ever seen, and NONE OF THEM has an answer! It's the same crap all over again! I have yet to see one of them that REALLY gives a SHIT! Their only concern is getting elected! I only see one option to voice our dissatisfaction and that is to "write in a candidate". It doesn't matter if it's a relative, yourself, someone who is no longer alive, or your 1st grade teacher! At least they'll know we don't like our choices!!! Maybe one of the parties will wise up and decide to propose a candidate 4 years from now that represents us!!! Obviously it ain't gonna happen this year! This is the worst election I have ever seen, and being 60 years old, I've seen a hell of a lot! So far, we've had lip service only, as is always the case, but there is really no one out there to really represent US! WRITE IN a vote...your dog, your cat...yourself...your next door neighbor, I don't care! Let everyone know we AIN"T Happy!

Sitting it out does no good whatsoever. It's the old "good men standing by doing nothing" thing. Granted, there is no one running that I'm really jumping up and down about but then look at the other side....is there anyone running that I DON'T want to see elected? And the answer to that one is a resounding YES! Hillary as president would force me to consider a move somewhere....like Canada maybe! I would hate to see that power hungry ^%&*# get elected. Obama is offering change and hope....that's great Barack but we need a little more info here. Hillary is right on this one, you're all words and no substance. And then there
s McCain. The number of earmarks he's attached to bills over his years in the Senate is zero, that's right zip! He is a fiscal conservative and believes in controlling Federal spending. Now there's a concept that's near and dear to my heart! He is a real honest to goodness war hero (unlike others who have CLAIMED that distinction in the past elections). He has supported allowing guns to be carried on National Park Service land, unlike Barack and Hillary who are about as anti-gun as you can get.
And on the flip side, McCain voted against dubyah's tax cuts and in his zeal for campaign finance reform, he voted for McCain/Feingold which limited our first amendment rights and was ultimately struck down by the courts.
Obviously, McCain has some warts as well. So this year I'll do again what I've always done with my votes (and I'm 62), I'll be voting the lessor of the evils and that is McCain!

IMO...if a job doesn't pay a reasonable wage then I'm not working. I'm not in a position to subsidize those at the top of the food chain and they ought to know better. You get what you pay for... low pay means low morale and no productivity. Stop squeezing market gains and executive compensation out of the little man... Not exactly true mama. The Republican base voted with thier feet during the last mid term election and sent some of their representatives packing. Alot of them are going to do it again in the Presidential election to further the message.
McCain is no conservative, regardless of what the media force feeds everybody. McCain is going down.:)
If it allows a Democrat in the office for the next 4 years, then so be it. The country will still be here in 4 1/2 years. It might be owned by the Arabs, and the Chinese though.
I will be at the polls on voting day to cast my vote/s to support the local elections. But I will not waste a vote on some Republi-Crat like John McCain. There are millions of others doing exactly the same thing. We are doing our complaining with our feet.

I agree that the United States might be owned by the Arabs and/or Chinese in 4 1/2 years but heres why. We continue to throw billions into this war that we don't have, and another 150 billion to 'stimulate the economy'! So where do we get it? We borrow it, and so far we've borrowed this country into oblivion. If the Chinese called in their loans all at one time (yes the same Communist China that once offered Secretary of State Kissenger over 1000000 of their women!) our country would be bankrupt! We might as well box up the White House, the Capital building, all the memorials in D.C., all the golf courses not already owned by some other Asian country, and ship them over to China, and we still wouldn't come close to paying off the debt.
Yes I know Democrats are prone to raising taxes, but in my view, taxes are inevitable and they are right in front of us. We know what we're paying and what we're paying for. Borrowing from 4 generations down the road, at least to me, is irresponsible. I don't want my great grandchildren financing the mess this country is in now.
Ronald Reagan borrowed huge sums of money to build a 700 ship Navy, and did so on a ten year loan. He knew he wouldn't be in office so the poor sap who followed him was in deep poo! So what does Papa Bush use as a campaign slogan? "Read my lips, no new taxes!" Once those loans started coming due, he had no choice but to either borrow more money, or raise taxes. At least Papa Bush was smart enough not to continue putting this country in hock. He raised taxes and for that, his "Thank you" from his constituents was electing Clinton.
Why did the military hate Clinton so much? He started closing bases and putting high ranking officers either in the unemployment line or back in the pool to get another cozy base somewhere else to run. Clinton was a complete POS as a person, but closing bases down saved the US untold amounts of money and did NOTHING to diminish our military strength as those Admirals and Generals swore it would if they no longer had a piece of cake command somewhere. Clinton was a jerk, but financially he proved to be the best thing this country had seen in a long time.
So, IMO, raising taxes isn't the end of the world. Sure it sucks, but look where the alternative has put us!

I disagree...write-ins send a message. Someone MUST count that vote, and if there are enough, it sends a message to the winner and loser both that people are dissatisfied. Sufficient numbers of write-ins would deny any of the candidates a majority, and 4 years from now, maybe the two major parties would nominate some candidates with some sense.

Helping friends, that's what it's all about. Great thing to do.
Not that it' releveant here but figured to make the following comment. Businesses that take advantage by paying low wages are the scourge. Reasonable wages are required for all of us to be able to thrive. If anyone thinks low wages are okay then consider that taxes will be paid to assist that low wage person and essentially the business that pays those low wages is being subsidized by your tax dollar.
