For surf fishing. I was kind of drawn to this one, but would love to hear the ins and outs from the experienced.

imho by far the best one is the energizer one, that you can buy at home depot. the ones like you posted tend to be too bulky for me. but if you go for the energizer one, make sure you get the one with the on/off slide, NOT the one with the on/off button. the problem with the button is if you want the red light, you have to cycle through the spot light to get to it. the slide is easy, left for red, right for spot light.

this is the good one

I use one from energizer I get fro mTarget for less then 10 bones.

It has thre settings, right-white light. LEft red, center off. It cheap and easy.

I also hang a stream light flashlight around my neck thats waterproof. I can shine it on my line from twenty feet away and see my fishing line.

I also recently purchased a two head lamp and two flash light set from the local home depot for five dollars (clearence). Its the same light that energizer makes and all thelights come with batteries. So I am stocked for a year or two.

I would have to agree with lip on this one.. I like that light so much I even use it on my Technical Rescue Team Helmet in the Fire Department. What is really nice about it is that you can move it to face down with out keeping your head pointed down.. This light is a sure bet..

I use the little Rayovac job you can get at Wal-Mart or K-Mart. Digger turned me on to them. Runs on 3 AAA batteries, has red and white LED's and a regular headlamp. Great battery life, has been wet several times from rain, and is just plain nice. Very comfy to wear, and has 0-rings to seal all fittings. 14 bucks.

That's what I use, too.

Goes from red to white, in that order, which is a good thing. ;)

It isn't real bright, but good for tying knots, changing lures, cutting bait or anything in close.

I like a light that's a little brighter for landing a big fish from the beach or pier.

I've got the Rayovac as well. Works great for me. Also pivots down like the Energizer ones.

I've got the Petzl Tikka XP. I do a lot of hiking that I can't finish by nightfall, so I got this little bright one. It's very nice, but not sure if it's worth 5-6 times the cost of the Rayovac that my dad uses and loves. Plus, his got the red mode, which won't mess up your night vision.

Yep, the Rayovac works fine for me. Either wear it as headlamp or hang it around your neck.

I stopped by Home Depot and they had the Energizer for $13 so I picked one up. Nice little light. The had a slightly more sophisticated one, alongs the same style lines, with a spot, but it was a bit heavier. Can this light take a few raindrops?

I agree with LIP.... I do have the push button version and the cycling does get on your nerves..... But it has not failed me yet.. The red light comes in handy when your night fishing at IRI....

I have dropped mine a few times in the surf and just shaken it off and blew out where the batteries are and it lit right back up.. I have another one that my dad got me but it is just a big beam and it is good for walking to my fa spots at night becuase it lights everything up. But then i just change to the Energizer or for the red light feature.
