Can I get some advice on the best reel and rod setup that I can use on pier and in surf? I need for it to be a good casting setup also! I was looking at the Saltiga (I think that is how it is spelled) but I have never thrown a convent. reel. Please give me any insight on what I should do. Its almost that time and I'm about to place my order for saltwater supplies.

geezzz...no answers...should have gottoa 1000...most pier and surf will work with a spinner at #14-17 test and need to throw up to 5-6oz. ...do not go to the darkside until you are ready...just go fishing...

It's hard to give ya advise without knowing a little more about your needs.

I wouldn't recommend the Saltiga. It's too expensive and hard to control. The Saltist is a better deal at 1/3 the price.

Instead of spending $400 on that reel, buy a 20H or 30H and put the rest of the money on a nice rod.

If you want a heaver, I would look at an HDX and 525 or Dawia 20/30 SHA.

If you don't want to spend quite that much an Ocean Master rod pair with one of the above reels would be good!

I agree with newsjeff, the saltiga is a waste of money for surfcasting. Get the Saltist if you want to spend that much!
