Hi everyone,

i have been reading and learning some off the best knowledge on this site for a while. i really enjoyed and loved it. i need some advice and idea on what i did on a lamiglas 1502mh blank.

I took off 5" off from 1502 mh tip. the tip size is 12 right now instead of size 9 tip out off the bag. i was wondering will 5" off the tip make this beautiful blank into a sweet and nice action 8-10 oz heaver + bait??

on the downside, i know that i will definitely lose some sensitivity, but i hope that i didn't lose too much sensitivity and power to turn a fish's head..wat do you guys think??:)

thank you very much.

regards
Jonathan

Generally Lamiglas rods are pretty sensitive in nature due to it's light weight blank.

Cutting off the tip would void the lifetime warranty.

I would suggest the GSB 162 1MH. I have that rod, and it's a beast with a 14 tip.

I also have the 1502mh rod like you, but even though it is rated 6-16, I bet it would be tough to cast anything over 10oz. The 1621mh will be able to cast it, without any mods.

If you already did the deed, nothing to do now but try it. Let us know, it should help with the heavier weights but I don't know how it will play fish now. A few guys were taking 6" off the tip on the breakaway LDX (3-6oz) to turn it into an 8 & bait rod, and they seemed happy with the results.

Won't know if you don't try.

I've heard a lot of builders clip 3" from the tip of the 1502 to help out with tossing 8nbait, but not 5". The thing about clipping the tip is that it's such a drastic change to the blank, you never know what's going to happen until you try it. Like Mark said, nothing you can do now but give it a shot. Tape some guides on and go at it. Let us know how it turns out. Personally, I would have clipped 3" first, tried it and if it didn't work, take another 1/2", try again and so on until I was happy with it.
