Open Forum General discussion on inshore saltwater fishing.
Is there anyone here that fishes inshore saltwater.Seems like everyone talks about using rigs for 8oz. and bait. Not familiar with the water ways or creeks in you area. And having to cast 50 to 100 yards. I take it that this is all bank fishing.

I fish inshore some from a skiff in the St Helena sound area. I pier and surf fish too. Most of the 8oz heaving you hear about on here is surf. With a 12-13' surf stick - they are trying to get WTF out, or to the second bar or trough.

On a boat you go to your spot and anchor. All you need is a shorter toss and usually on a short fighting rod. I have a 309 Penn on a 6' mh Daiwa rod. Chunk it 50'+ and I'm happy with big bait. Many times you drop straight down.

Depend on what I'm after as what I fish with. My son ALWAYS wants a shark. He claims the 309. I like whiting so it's a bottom rig on a #9 Penn on a 7' rod. I always like to fish grubs and jigs or a cork rig too. I likes me flatfish, reds, and trout. I have bass tackle baitcaster and spinner for it on 10# line and does great.

Living in Florida where I do, I can fish the surf, the jetty, or drive three blocks and fish the Intercoastal under the bridges, etc. Just a few miles North is the Tomoka River basin area, which is brackish. I have the best of all worlds with the exception of a dang boat!!!
