For casting lures? It's a good MH 6' 6" rod rated 1/4 - 1 oz with a nice Quantum bass sized baitcasting reel. Will be spooling it with some 12 lb. test Big Game or something similar. I'll be casting 1/2 oz. MirrOlures, 1/4-1 oz total weight bucktails, and Gulp on jigheads for trout, reds, blues, flounder, ect. With the drag set properly, a leader for teeth, and cleaned regularly, will this work as a lure rod?

Thanks. I'll take it and see how well it handles them. It's one of my bass combos so I'm used to using it which always helps. If I need to I can just get a new lighter rod.
How full would you fill it with the line, 1/8th in? Same as freshwater right?

Sounds like you are on the right track Smooth. Just try different line test till you find one that works for you.

man I throw my baitcast setup all day long in the surf. 7 foot shimano im7 with shimano chromica 500a. Spooled with 14lb Cajun mono, does the job! When I get over 1.5 ounces, I have a little trouble. I'm going to get something stiffer for that soon. But I love the bass setup, you can toss it all day without wearing yourself out, and your right, it brings some of the familiarity back!

Glad I'm not the only one using a bass combo. Most folks use the bigger open baitcasting reels, But they're a lot bigger and heavier and like you said, you can cast and cast them all day long. I just don't see the need for that big of a combo for 5+- lb. fish.

I use my Shimano Corolis on a 6-6 BPS GS med action for inshore all the time. Tosses grubs, bucktails, minners, and well as bait under a cajun thunder. Have used it in the surf too - does fine - got to clean it a bit more often to keep corrosion in check.

How do you like that Corolis? I love shimano products.

I throw a Daiwa inshore reel on a custom Seeker inshore 7' light Rod. Awesome for throwing lures, much more comfortable than spinning gear. I use 12 lb Sufix Tritanium and have landed nice flounder, schoolie stripers, trout and false albacore. For anything less than 3/8oz or if a strong headwind, I go spinning which isn't very often.
