How many sinkers do you take with you to the surf/pier? Obviously they're very heavy after you get several different sizes and I keep all of them I have in a box...it's just too heavy to take every time.
How many spares do you take for each rod of different sizes? I rarely lose a rig on the bottom or a breakoff...if I have to cut a rig on a fish I always get the sinker back.

really depends on where youre going...sandy bottom usually 2 or 3 extra...a place with structure or rocks...such as some spots in iri...you never know how many you could lose.

You can never be over prepared, take as many as you can without overkill.. I use a separate box for sinkers ..1oz.-12oz I try to keep about 5 each, or more..

if your driving on the beach.. it doesnt hurt to carry like 5x of like 3-8ozs

i mean.. just throw them in its own box in the corner of your trunk.
then you should have all your hooks on traces ready to me put on.
then some extra smaller size hooks, in case if there is more small fish then huge fish.
(remember, big hooks cant catch small fish. but small hooks can catch both.)

We can't drive on the beach here that I'm aware of, and I hate to spend $100+ on a surf cart. So I carry a cooler with everything I need inside it with my rods in one hand...It gets heavy after fish and ice goes in it. ;) Was just trying to have as little as I could.

When I walk on the beach I take three all of em five ounce. I will fish five oz all the time, calm, tide running etc. I am used to the weight and it always will feel the same on the cast and the bite...

I usually take them all with me unless I venture out on foot.

I keep mine in a comercial dishwasher utensil basket. Works great. I ve kept it for years. If need be, I can pull it out and rinse it with the lead in it.

I get my weight training done carrying my box of sinkers from my apartment to my truck...that's how many I carry :D

Big amo case full in the back of the truck all the time. And about 1/2 dozens of 8oz in the tackle back most of the time.

2 or 3 2oz
3 4oz.
5 6oz.
5 8 oz.
All pyramid

3 6 oz spider weights

3 6 oz. egg
3 3 oz. egg

When you add it up, 1t's almost 8 1/2 lbs. Never realized it was that much!

If driving - I bring em all. Just easier that way. If having to carry light - I typically guesstimate the weight I will need and air on the heavier side. Then I usually take enough weights to cover the amount of rods I am using x 2. IE - 4 rods = 8 weights. I typically take 3 weight ranges. Ex. 5, 6, 8 oz.

Even my light setup can get quite heavy.

Get the wheeled cooler from Wally World. I strapped a couple of rod holders to mine and threw a milk crate on top. It works like a champ and the fishing stuff doesn't get in the way of cold
When I start fishing the rod holders come off the cooler and get sunk in the sand

I rarely lose one, so the most I ever need is 2 or 3, but since I mostly drive on the beach I keep a small box with a few different sizes in it. The box stays in the truck most all of the time.

Driving, all of them and a then couple extras.

Walking, I take a look at the surf first. Two rods, a 6’ and a 9’. Little rod 3 - ¼ and 3 - 1/2 oz egg sinkers. If it is rougher 3 – ½ and 3 – ¾ oz egg sinkers. For the double bottom rig, two each of two sizes. If it is fairly calm, 2 - 3’s and 2 - 4’s. Rougher 2 – 4’s and maybe 2 – 5’s or 6’s. That way I can switch to a lighter or heavier weight and have one backup for a lost weight. I would rather err on the heavy side than the light side when deciding.

If the walk is pretty long and I am going to be there all day, I’ll take another one of each and one or two lighter and heavier in case the weather changes. Kind of like asking how many hooks to take. All depends on conditions and what I’m after. I usually have a pack (6 hooks) of each I think I’ll need. And leader spools… gona need 3 or 4 different sizes. Filet knife AND bait knife or just one or the other… Large cooler, medium cooler or two smaller ones… looks like I’m gona need a bigger cart to drag out to the point.

I wasn't too keen on spending that kinda money on a cart either, so I went to Lowes and got a garden cart for about $60. It's not as light as the nice pier carts, but it has nice big pneumatic tires and plenty of room for a cooler, tackle box, and other stuff. I just made a rod rack that fits onto the back of the cart.

Of course I also can't fish properly unless I have at least 5 rods and 20+ lbs. of lead in my bag. :D

Yeah I'm looking at one of those from Tractor Supply, it might be the same thing. They go on sale occasionally so I'm kinda waiting til they go on sale again.

Tautog fishing at the drawbridge in Ocean City, at the drawbridge, requires a ton of sinkers. That walk from the car with all that weight will toughen up anybody. I have gone through dozens of 4,5,6 ounce banks up there in one day.

Only wish this strain on BOTH of my ex-wives.

do you want something to pull on the sand...get a big tired cart...I used a hand cart on the piers for years...it held my cooler w/ice, my giant tackle box with still not enough stuff in it, and my 4-6 rods...I did extend the width of the deck to make it easier to tip back...held everything on with bungycords...
