I recently purchased one of these for the purpose of lure fishing, and decided to take it out today. I wanted to see how the reel casted, and my first impression is the reel may be too tame. It has the 6-pin brakes, and the Mag control. Does anyelse have this particular reel, and if so have you done anything to speed it up?

Not familiar with this particular version, but I dump the brake blocks out of any abu with a mag control, unless this proves to be too fast I leave them out.

Kwesi,
If your looking for an Abu multiplier for spinning, go look at the Abu Revo STX even with the level wind left on its an ideal plug/lure chucking reel.

I'd take them all out and see what the brakes alone will do...then add as needed...good luck...have fun...lol...

On the new Abu six pin brake setup you don't actually remove the brake blokes to make them inactive. You just push them into the centre rather than have them extended out to end of their mounts. Turn on as many or off as you like. You might also check the silver spool tensioning knob on the handle side of the reel. It may be a bit too tight which will slow down the spool.

The 6600 version is better suited to surf fishing.
