It'll depend on the weight of the rod and the size of the container you ship in, and might vary from place to place... Give Fed Ex, UPS, and the USPS a call if you know the weight and dimensions, if not you'll probably have to go in.
I've heard $16-20 for shipping a large rod so somewhere in there should be good.

FedEx has been the best for large packages in my experience. I shipped like 4 or 5 rods to Philly Jack in a 5" PVC tube that was 7.5 feet long for 19 bucks. Beyond fishing rods, I've shipped a 50 lb bass amp and a few guitars through FedEx and they've always been the cheapest.
USPS. in a tube. priority mail. FAST. alot cheaper the UPS or FEDEX
i can ship 11' rods equal pieces. about 10$.
even the clerk looked at me dumbfounded.
she told me 25$. i told her its 10$ do you price check again woman!
13' comes up to about 20$~

did you buy the tube at the UPS store?
you can A. get a thick cardboard rod tube. (dunno where to find these)
B. PVC pipe tube
C. USPS triangle boxes, tape 2 together and its a large triangle tube.
usually i dont buy my tubes.
when i buy rods i save the tube they get shipped in. and stuff them in the closet.
cause i know later on, theyll always have a use. i still have about 7 tubes.
but man... that 55c3 last night... ARGH! lol

Go to a carpet store for cardboard tubes. They tend to be heavy duty though so it might be easier to just get a pvc pipe.
