I've never owned nor even worked in either one, but given a choice, I'd take the tackle shop for several reasons. 1) You would get all your equipment at wholesale. 2) How many tackle shops have you ever heard of being robbed vs. the local convenience/gas station? 3) Station owners may, at most make about a nickle for every gallon they sell. 4) Less stress in a tackle business 5) Easier to make the excuse that you need to take off and fish (research, ya know) assuming you have some good help 6) More mark-up in fishing equipment than in gas/milk/cigarettes etc. 7) Less competition 8) You'd enjoy it more!!!

Taking all into consideration, you'd probably make more money with a gas/convenience store, but you'd have 3 times more headaches. If you plan on JUST a gas station with no milk/groceries etc, then you'd go broke in a hurry. You'd have to add something that would turn a profit, such as a wrecker service, tires, mechanic, etc. Just my opinion, mind you, but I would take the tackle shop any day.

location is the key...you have a tackle shop, the person must need tackle...you have a convience store W/ gas...you got beer, lotto, chips, etc...

I have a job for ya, of course it has no sick leave, no vacation, no insurance, no 401K plan, you can call in sick but no pay for no work, you have to supply your own tools and equipment, no over time pay,,, sounds like fun,,,,,If ya ever want to work for a real dummy,,,, just become Self-employed

Why is everyone leaving from the sign up line

And if everyone took this advice you'd see those big box stores and corporations ripping us all a new one... prices would go out of the roof, even more than they are. We NEED MORE COMPETITION.

Working for yourself can be highly satisfying, and I agree it comes with alot of hidden costs, but it does have benefits too.

I have been self employed for over 21 years.

I used to give myself time off to go fishing when I was young but I grew into a real hardass who keeps me working all the time.

My wife is right I am an @$$h0le....
