Does anyone know where I can purchase a 1/2 bushel or a bushel or crabs? I'm (and a couple of others) are coming to VA at the end of this month to fish for a couple days.

I usually get mine from Bayside Tackle (Shore Drive & Greenwell area) or Bubba's. Bayside is better.

Do it the easy way I buy two pounds of claw and make my own crab meat and butter. Picking crabs for the amount of meat is titius and I am good at it since eight years old . I just pay the price and be done with it. or last week I went to the new place on Indian River road and Laurel Dr. bought a dozen deviled crabs and enjoyed all weekend. Forgot the name buts its a big house painted purple, good............

Where will you be fishing from, the best price I have seen is right from the local watermen. If you are near Gloucester they sell for about 40 bucks a bushel on the docks on the average (of course supply and demand changes the price daily). Just meet the boat when it comes in. Expect to pay considerably more as the Memorial weekend nears.

They were $2.00 each, no break on a dozen. They were out of jimmies, and soft shells, the lady told me you got to get there early for those ,they go as fast as she can cookum.
Not bad on the devils, I like mine a little hotter and spicy.
Well worth the money.......... One of my business mags ran an article on the owners, they use to run the Blue Channel in Norfolk, I dont get that way often but I will go the next time I go to Sams Club and pick up another dozen.

Sully, maybe you can check in on how many pounds of meat one gets from a bushel of steamed crabs. At the banks, the girls say 7/8 pounds cracked to the bushel. For my taste the claw meat is the best. And at around 90 to a 100 bucks a bushel, I just buy it shelled at around 8 bucks a pound. Kinda a no brainer, and better than lump. wdbrand.

16-18 medium size crabs (no-paper shells) will get approx 1 lb of meat.
Depending on the size, 6-8 dz crabs per bushel.
