Shimano Stradic 4000 should do the trick. Unless you plan on dunking it all the time. Then you are looking at a VS which is way out of that range.

Before you settle for one or the other, take a quick look at the okuma epixor 55a, nice reel for what your looking for. Good service and if I am not mistaken it is braid friendly.. salt

I use a couple of Penn 650 ssm reels, that work fine for me. But I have my sights set on a Cabo. :)

Stradic. Bring your pole in and match a reel to it. I’ve had 2 for…. several years now and no issues at all. Fast retrieve and smooooth action. You won’t be sorry.

I prefer any Daiwa in the 4000 series

How does the Stradic compare to the Daiwa Tierra or the Penn slammers?I have a Stradic 4000 on one of my freshwater rods and I like it.However I'm concerned with the durability of the Stradic in saltwater.

I've fished a Stradic 5000FH in nothing but saltwater for almost 3 years now with no problems! I rinse it off after every trip (which should be done with any reel), keep it lubed, and it still works like the day I took it out of the box.

I fished the Stradic 5000 for a couple of years and it was a great reel but the lins capacity of the Daiwa's was what I was looking for. The reel on the left is the TD Advatage 4000 and ther one on the right is the TD Tierra 4000. Both are great reels but the TDA is hands down the smoother of the 2. I really think the TDA being made in Japan and the Tierra being made in China has alot to do with it. Both performed flawless and I would recommend either but the TDA is smooooooothe as butta.

I've heard good things about the Daiwa TD.How does it handle saltwater?

Saltwater is all I use these for. No problems at all just give um a good rinse after using and your good. Now as with any reel if they get dunked you need to do a good cleaning right away to get the grit out. I clean and relube all my new reels with Quantum Hot Sauce Grease or Penn blue grease. Both of these do a great job of repelling any moisture that may get inside.

Stradic 5000. Light, smooth and fast retrieve.

Nothing wrong with a Penn Slammer but it is heavy in comparison.

get the shimano biomaster 08 model.
same price as the stradic, around $180
way better quality than a stradic hands down.

stay away from them Penn spinners. :--|

Check out the Daiwa Capricorn... I have had it for about 2yrs. now and it's still as smooth as the day I bought it... that's after being dunked a few times in the yak.
