I looked at the Penn Slammer reel the other day.It appears to be a solid reel. How does it rate with the Stradics,Daiwa TDA or Daiwa BG series for plugging and lite surf work?

penn has less parts, super strong, solid. the daiwas and shimanos are great reels, super smooth and have a million parts. have fun tking it apart when needed...the BG is a solid , time tested reel the lines of the penn ss series. i would get the penn or BG. but that just me. i like metal reels. close second is the penn ssg.

I have 4 Slammers and I would buy another in a heartbeat. I have no complaints. Rock solid, smooth drag and affordable. Try one you won't be sorry.

I own nine Slammers. Two 260's, three 360's, two 460's, and two 560's. I do a lot of different types of fishing and I use all those reels at different times.

I just came back from an eight day fishing vacation and seven of those reels were used daily.

One of those 260's loaded with 15# Power Pro and 30# flouro wrestled a 31 inch snook out from deep under the mangroves in Tarpon Bay on Sanibel Island while flats fishing.

One of the 460's with heavier line, landed a 35 inch snook caught on a live pinfish rigged deep in Redfish Pass from the jetty on Captiva.

I basically only use Penn reels and as you can see, I now love the Slammers. They are awesome reels.

I still use some of my SS models but those are my wading reels now and occasional loaners for family, friends, and such who want to fish with me but don't have the right equipment.

I have one and have it on a tsunami 12 foot r od. It works great. If I go to spinning that is the one that I use.

My slammers have gone through it all and are still chugging along. My stradics seemed to wear down a whole lot quicker. In my opinion the slammer is a lot more tough. Havent tried out the new stradics, but one of my older models seized up even after rinsing with freshwater. Im sticking with slammers.

Both of My 360's have seen the bottom of the ocean and still work great.

The drags (HT100's) are sealed. Good stuff.

I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one who likes the Slammers. Good to hear they can take a dunking too, cause one of my 460's took a good bath this past trip.

It was only three days into the eight day trip and she worked fine the whole rest of the trip.

She has since been dropped off at my reel guy for a good overhaul. In my opinion, if it had been anything else, I'd be looking at getting new bearing rather than just a good cleaning.

I have a 260 on an 8ft airwave, it has a sealed drag and will throw light or heavy lures out of sight. A lot of fun to be had, throwing a 2oz glass minnow at bluefish

What would be the best size slammer to match with a 9 1/2 ft lamiglas surf rod?

Probably a 460 or 560. I spool mine up with braid so I can get by with the 460.

What would be the best size slammer to match with a 9 1/2 ft lamiglas surf rod?

Steve, Im throwing 360's on my 1023,

but I did just buy a 460 to put on a WRI 1033. there is only a slight size difference.
