View Full Version : Sunburned Feet
Does anyone use a fishing shoe or boot for surf fishing? Every year my feet get cooked . I wear a long sleeve shirt and a good hat but the sunscreen doesn't seem to stay on my feet. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Chris

well i half to say the pink are pretty hot..... on my wife only though. i would die before wearing those. Every year i make the same dumb mistake. Set my rods, get in my chair, let the surf wash on my feet, enjoy a Mt. Dew then..... then i pay for it later with cherry red feet. burn baby burn.
I just got a pair of these. Very nice on the beach as it protects against sun and keeps the sand out. Also dries very quickly.
One warning though, if your friends are like mine they will make fun of you but I like mine.
Even if I do have the spidey nickname now...

If you apply sunscreen before you leave the house it'll be a lot more effective.
I bought a pair of crocs that tie like regular shoes at Bass Pro last year. My daughter says I look like a dork... what the hell. This past weekend I wore japflaps and got sunburned on my feet except for the white outline before my toes.

once you wear a pair of croc's you will change your mind ..... they still have little holes that you could still get burnt thru .... but they are so comffy
always apply screen before getting to the beach and reapply often ... if I don't pay attention I become Chief RedFeet myself ....... I also use 50 spf too ....
a nice umbrella works wonders also ... I've also been know to throw a towel or tshirt over my feet too ......
gotta do whatcha what ya gotta do

Ah, the Teva Tan...nothing like sitting at work a week later and digging at your feet to dig off the dead skin.
Come November, I look down in the shower and see this:

I agree with surfchunker. I wear crocs on the beach and work the sunscreen early and often. I like the kind you can spray on so it doesn't get all over your hands. But I can't laugh at what anyone wears to prevent burning their feet. I've burned mine many a time and it took me years to swallow my vanity and do whatever it took to prevent ruining another trip with red, swollen feet. If it works, whatever it is, it's cool.

Are you talking about the tan flats boots? They're good for wading, but they don't have any drainage. I ended up just putting holes in the toes and heels.. works like a champ in the kayak, and they work over stocking foot waders.

:fishing:Chris, I've had a lot of burns in my life and the feet are about shot. Used different things to cover up but found the best on the beach and in the water are ankle high dive boots. Cost $26. Got them from www.ScubaMart.com. Works great and lasts a long time. Had them 6 yrs.

Sand flea - lol That one is great. My damn brother's feet look like that every summer. I give him hell about it too. I put on spf 50 at the house and reapply a few times. I like bare foots in the sand.:fishing::beer: I take my sandles off once I get set up. NO teva tan!!!!

I got some boat shoes from West marine before they became Boater's World for like $7....best money I ever spent. They are neoprene, so they wash and dry easily, and keep the sun off my feet after they've had enough.

Simple solution...dig feet deep in the sand when your sitting and cover them back up with sand after you get up to get a beer ... or check your line :fishing:
Works wonders:cool:

I like crocs nice and comfy easy to put on and easy to take off when I’m fishing. The only problem is that they pick up to much sand and pebbles that are uncomfortable on the bottom of my feet.
Oh and they are not to perty pink one that the girlies were.

Picked up some crocs the other day cause I burned the hell out of my feet Memorial Day. They look gay on the display rack, but once you put em on, they look ok, and comfortable as hell.

BAD Idea!!!! You will prevent sunburn, however you will cook your feet like an oven. My brother did this last summer couldn't walk for a couple days. He literary cooked his feet in the sand.
