I think you will be happy with them. A lot of people are using them.

I have a NIB AV40. I got it in with a trade deal and have never put line on it. It feels nice and smooth. I think it will be ok for lite saltwater work.

Use the search feature, there are several threads discussing the Okuma reels. People either love them or hate them, personally I dislike them, but I'll let you read about that in the other threads. The AV? well unless they've done something with that piece of junk, keep it NIB and use it as a paperweight....one or two trips to the sand and salt and they are thrashed.....At least ALL 3 of mine were (and yes, they get rinsed and cleaned after every beach trip)

I have heard the same thing. Like I said it was part of the total deal. I never intended on using it.

From everything I have heard, the V-System Okumas can't be beat. I plan on getting one.

Although I have an Okuma Inspira and Avenger I would recommend you go with Shimano.

I have the SA55 and fish almost every day. It's the best reel in my arsenal so far. I have a lot of Penn's and they are seeming suck.

Okuma's are like all other reels, if you have an Avenger etc, they are good reels, but entry models. I have the expixor 55a I just added to the epixor 65 bait runner, the expixor 65 for soaking bait, I also have two schimano 6500 and a 4500 and the Okuma hang right in there with them. For bang for the buck the okuma is out front depending on what you got to spend... salt

yep, what saltshaker said. I have the expiors and coranados and they just as good as my 4500 bait runners.
