i just received an order in the mail for my abec5 ceramics. i did spin test on them and 1 didnt perform as well. took 1 dust shield off to clean and i swear they look like stock bearings. how many physical balls are in there and how many are supposed to be there? a little upset thinking i might have got ripped. thanks for the help in advance.

You can't tell the ABEC rating of the bearing by looking at them. Its tolerances measured in micrometers (ie not visible to the human eye).

You will never get a lot of bearing that all match the spin speed and such. If you bought your bearing from a reputable place I wouldn't worry about it, just clean them put your choice of oil on them and let her fly!

In my opinion, all these ABEC ratings are WAY overrated when talking about using them in fishing reels. The original ABEC rating was for use with sewing machines and such that have much much much much higher RPM's than a fishing reel for much longer sustained times. Those sustained times when the bearing a spinning really fast and HEATING up over that time period are when the ABEC ratings come into play.

If you keep your bearing cleaned and properly oiled you won't notice any difference between an abec 1 and abec 7. of course that is my opinion and if anyone can prove my theory wrong please do!

ABEC Bearing ratings for a set of bearings will soon change to a lesser ABEC rating through normal wear almost as you watch. ABEC 7s soon become 5s and 5s soon become 3s. Buy what you can afford and keep them clean and lbricated. Go fishing and don't worry about it.

ABEC ratings are basically a polish... which will wear down over time. I have been racing downhill skateboards for quite sometime, ABEC ratings don't mean crap... buy from a reputible manufacturer when buying ceramics. Some ceramics are cheap... they're ceramic coated metal balls, once the ceramic chips off it eats up the bearing.

What's the issue with the bearing? A little slower than the rest or is there grinding? Sometimes one will get a little more grease than the rest and seem slower.
