I need some suggestions on what kind of line I need to use on my Stradic 5000.It's matched with a 9 1/2 ft Lamiglas.I want to use it for plugging(Spanish and Blues) and light surf casting.

I don't like braid, but a good line like Sufix Tri+ or Sufix Siege would be my first choice. Big Game is also nice. 14 or 15 lb. test should be plenty, just don't forget a bite leader.

I have a 5000 loaded with 30 lb Power Pro...no complaints...works like a charm!!!

steve,

I use a 9' Tica and a Stradic 8000 loaded with 30ld Suffix braid and a 2-3' fluorocarbon leader (40-50Lb test). A great plugging combo with enough backbone in the rod and smooth drag to beat striped bass up to 35 lbs so far.

30# is fine.

The Daiwa is silky smooth, but only comes in 200yd spools (you will have to use some backing.

Sufix Siege 14 or 17 lb

...well I gots a 5000 Stradic on sale....I found out the only difference between it and the 4000 was the spool..
...so I loaded it with 10 Ande Backcountry and its a spanish-blue plugging machine...
....even on the surf I still wouldn't go over 12 lb. of what ever you put on it..
..I use 12lb. all fall flea fishing with a 9' Tica....

since there are two spools;

1 spool 12# suffix mono
1 spool 30 # braid, now PP

Good point! I just haven't spooled up the spare spool yet because the braid is working so well for me.

I'd put one spool with 20 # Power Pro and the other with 12 to 17 # Mono.

How much Power Pro 20 will the Stradic 5000 hold?Should I add mono backing on the spool?

I just put 300 yards of 20 *braid* on my 4000 so you should be safe.

Put enough mono backing on to cover the spool and then put the braid on. Make sure the braid has tension as it is being spooled on. I have a 5000 spooled with #20 braid and it has caught many big fish including kings and cobia.

Id put enough backing on to be able to get 150 yds of what ever size of PP on the spool. I prefer to use dacron backing.
