Make sure your magnet setting, the slider on the left side, hasn't moved to a faster setting or that your spool tension knob, the big silver one on the handle side hasn't loosened.

I find that when casting repeatedly or reeling in a fish my hand hits the magnet slider and move it all the way forward, making the reel faster.

Your spool tension should be set just tight enough to aloow a very small side to side play in the spool, and set your magnets at "8" until you get it all sorted out.

It could also be that you were feeling more confident and really leaned into a few casts. I know if I get a couple of good ones, it goes to my head and I try to muscle one way out there and end up with a bird's nest. Smooth out the technique and see if the reel starts behaving.

Don't forget the wind as well!!! If the wind direction changed, and you now have the wind blowing toward you rather than behind you, you'll need to apply more mag force by sliding the mag lever to a higher number. Wind conditions will also dictate the mag setting, as will other factors such as sinker weight, bait size, how you hold your mouth and the Dow Jones Industrial Averages, LOL. Don't be afraid to play with the magnet, but if you are getting birdsnests, just slide the mag control up one or two numbers higher!
