i am thinking of buying a used penn squidder and restoring it, but it doesnt have a level wind, is it supposed to, i am new to surf fishing so if is is not supposed to how does it work?:confused:

no levelwind on those reels,,,no brakeing mechanism either.Great reel to start with,however there are easier reels to learn from, mag it for a more enjoyable fishing time.

i suggest starting with a reel like a Daiwa SLX30 or SLX20..

very new user friendly. yet its a great reel with brawns to last years to come.

You lay the line across the spool with your thumb or index

if it has the plastic spool it has fins on the side to help control the over run... other wise learn to control the spool with your thumb... that's just a basic thing everyone should know... learned it 50 years ago and it's yet to fail me when the mechanicals break down... :cool:

i looked up the daiwa reel did u mean sld30? cause they didnt have a slx

look up sha,shv and slh 20 or 30(Sealine series)
