Hooker 9 where did you get your information? Is it open to pedestrian access or ORV? I'm about to leave my house right now and check it out.

The 10 PM - 6 AM restriction of ORV use is still in effect from April 1 through November 15. The night driving permits are supposed to be issued starting after September 15th, although there hasn't been any specific guidance issued on how and where to get the permits, and what the specific requirements are to obtain one.

Great news! That's a whole lot of beach open, should help with the crowd situation I've been hearing about all summer. If the night permits are in place by the middle of Sept. that will be even better.
to the contrary! they closed 49 and 23 and opened 1 mile of beach for the point so basically close 6 miles and give one back....albeit the best 1 mile there is....still less beach = more crowds
LISTEN! THIS FIGHT IS JUST BEGINNING!
KEEPING SIGNING THE PETITION AND WRITING YOUR ELECTED OFFICIALS!
CALLING AND FAXING THEM IS GOOD TOO!
EMAIL THEM!
BUT DONT STOP FIGHTING!
When did they close 49 and 23, only ramps that I knew were closed was 44 and 34.
As to the rest of your message, I agreed with what Sinner said on RDT too...

It's great to have it open, but it's still a day to day thing. If they spot some more birds or a turtle nests in the wrong spot we can be closed down again. 49 is closed as there is a turtle nest at the dune line right beside the ramp within its 50 day hatch window which requires a full resource closure in the Consent Decree.
Bottom line, enjoy it while it's open, cause we aren't out of the woods. Without legislature to change the situation they are going to make it as painful as they can. Keep fighting.

Atleast I did get to fish 49 before it closed. Fished it both Sat. and Sun. Met a fellow who lived right near there and had a very nice conversation. Thats what I love about this place, we struck up a conversation about fishing, the closers and come to find out he is from right in my back yard. He offered up some very helpful tips about this ramp and some spots to fish which I filed in my notes for my vacation trip the last of August.
We will win and I for one am not going to stop coming to the place I have loved for the last 40 odd years. If worse comes to worse I will return to my roots in the OBX. I'll just hit the planks and teach my yougins as I was tought.
