Dang.... I've got a five day week end this week end and have not made a single plan. I'm starting to feel like the home improvement wizard has really zapped me good this time... I've gotta make a plan so I can ditch the power tools for a couple a three days...
Any ideas that don't cost an arm, a leg? We love the beach, and I sure could go for that (except for crowds and not likely to find a campsite or other accommodations.) Considering a run up to New England but the costs are at issue. Possible to head out west, mountains and fish a few lakes and rivers.

Head out to Greenbrier State park and do some swimming and fishing.
Frederick keys are home this weekend and they are having fireworks after each game. And they have some great fireworks. Wife and I went just for the firework last friday night. Leave the house about 8;20 and just park in the parking lot off of 70 exit 54.
Howard County fair starts Saturday.

Greenbrier is an idea, swim, fish, enjoy the view. Especially if it's going to be hot, which it looks like it's going to be.
Steve mentioned last week Breezy Point, swim, fish, crab.
Not being rude but I practically live in a State Park, so other ideas appreciated especially fishing ones. Susquehanna is there.
Could head over to the Narrows.
Then there was an idea I was tossing around, heading over the CBBT and hang out around that area, of course this will cost a bit more. But an idea.
See this is what I don't like. Being at the mercy of an employer who granted leave late and then I've got no plans. I like having plans, with reservations and all that. (Of course then it'll rain but we'll still go.)

jeff: Looks like a cool place. Next to last picture looks like camping is allowed on the beach. We've spent a week, more than once, in a tent with blistering hot weather, not my favorite but once you get used to it then no problem. Thanks for the lead.

if you go to cbbt there is a state park on shore dr. right on cape henry wife and i checked it out last spring, couldn't get her highness to stay but it is real nice most sites are shaded, right on the bay. if you never fished there before you will not want to come back. try lynnhaven inlet and rudee inlet all so.

surfnsam.... sounds great. is the camping on or adjacent to the ocean or shore? do you know the name of it? Are you referring to First Landing State Park? http://www.dcr.virginia.gov/state_parks/fir.shtml I haven't stayed there yet but been to Virgina Beach a few times. Looking at the maps is it on the Bay rather than the Ocean?
I know what you mean about her highness... I've got two of them one older and one younger and if they don't want to go then no problem it'll be just me and my son (p.s... might have you going in wrong direction the younger highness is my daughter... :))

Al,
How you doing? Haven't seen you on the board for awhile.
Relaxing local is another idea. But just seems I can't get enough of the great outdoors after being cooped up in a building all week (week after week) Very true that simple things are good.... better than good, they are great
