I just got a Senator 1/0 thursday morning
From a P&S Bro. Went out last Night and on
the First cast. The Line got wrapped up behind
the Right Side Plate. Now it won't turn! Is this problem common with these Reel's? Will try too
Post some pic's later. I'm not sure what size line
is on it. Was already spooled when i got it.
I think it's 17#. Thank's P&S

Yeah it's the nature of the beast. There's a huge gap between the spool and cage of those reels. It's a common problem, I'm sure it's a piece of line in there.

It is a common problem when the line is too thin or the spool is too loose.
The line fluffs off the spool during the cast and gets caught between the spool and frame. Sometimes it will wrap around the spindle, but not always.
Try loosening the bushing on the right side plate until the spool moves side to side enough to pull the line out.
If its wrapped up really bad you need to remove the screws that hold the right side plate to the frame, remove the side plate, clear the jam and re-install.
Here is an excellent guide: http://pierandsurf.com/forum/showthread.php?p=418773
You really need minimum 20-25# line on these reels to avoid this problem.

I would take the reel apart and check it.
Put the reel back together and make sure everything works.
Then I would cast the reel in a feild during the day with sinker only and tune it.
May be a spool speed problem.
You may need to slow that baby down some.

Ditto on the previous responses.that reel is not made for 15# test line. But it is a great reel.

I have same reel finally found a manual that covers the 110 1/0 manual reflects min test line as 20lb @ 275 yds and 30 @225, never used mine , it was a present from old shipmate who is
crew member for Big Skipper up Topside.
Perhaps some heavier line will correct your problem
for old penns and newells.
id recommend a line at lesat 20# or about .40mm to .50mm in diameter.. anything smaller. it can get biten by the spool gap quite easily.

My Senator has 30 # mono. I top it with new line every other year. Thanks for the thread, probably time to pull it all off the line and replace with entirely new line. Any suggestions?

Ditto to all the above, with one addition: When you get it all cleared up, adjust the left side bearing so that there is just barely a discernible side to side movement of the spool, but still allows the spool to spin freely without binding.
