Im deciding on a reel for small plugs 12-2oz and for fishing with squid and stuff you know just something to do while i soaking a bigger bait on the big boys and i thought i had it set on the daiwa bg 20 which looks like it while last a lifetime and looks smooth and looks like it can stop a train with its drag but then today i was browsing Gregs reels and noticed and remembered the sahara! its a very nice reel, looks smooth and like most shimanos i guess the drag is like a tank but im not sure if 10lb test is enough and no i will not use braid. Ive always wanted a shimano but their prices... Hows the sedona as a reel, how about the symetre? this a going to be a gift and well i dont like going to far you know and well i guess i just need some help deciding, thanks! Any other recomendations would be welcome, under 100$ please!

JFIW, the owner and his son of small tackle shop here both use the Shara, they replace a bearing or two right off before using reel ??? they fish them on the Gulf flats and Back waters trout/redfish/jack/spanish and what ever else comes by,seems to be a good reel for money as well as BG series.

I have a sahara and have had no problems with it. I use it for both salt and fresh water. I've never used a bg so I have no feedback on it. The sahara is a good reel for the money. Can't beat $50

They are two different beasts.
The Shimano stuff is nice, I own a Baitrunner 4500 and it is a nice piece of work. I also own a SHimano RX-4000, a cheap $10 plastic reel and it works fine for what i use it for, peacocks on my lake. The higher end Shimano stuff has a reputation for being "overengineered" lots of small parts and such. They work very well, but not all of them are simple designs.
The BG's are simple designs, very basic, nothing more than what you need to make a spinning reel work, and that's what makes them tough and hard to kill.
Other than price, there really is no way to compare the two.
Just pick the one you think the gift recipient would like the best.

Sports Authority in Hialeah, off the Palmetto, has the Sahara 4000FB for $49.99, with a "green dot discount" of 30% off, makes it $35. They have a lot of other medium and high end reels green-dotted, and some are marked at 40% off the lowest price.
You might want to stop and take a look...
