I just got an Abu 6500 custom TCCF and it came with the V spool and six block brake clip ....

My questions are would the V spool work better on my Blue Yonder and how about the brake clip ... the BY has the regular spool and 2 block brake clip .... the New TCCF will be used for catfishing so distance won't be too big of an issue ......

Thanks

I have both types and I don't see much diff. in them. I think though the 4 pin breaks take a 4 slot pinion so you may have to switch them also.

I would say No. For one you are talking about 2 different reels. The B/Y is a Ct. made for long cast. The TCCF is a level wind reel. The 6 pin brake just gives you the Adjustment to control Professional Over runs using the brake blocks. This is used on most newer models. The B/Y uses more of a spool /bearing tension control.
Back to the V Spool they say it helps with line lay Maybe?
Maybe Allan has more input as far as the V-Spool.

I don't think the old brake assembly (flat pins engaging the pinion) will fit on a new V-spool. The brake assembly has to be swapped because using the new brake assembly (that has round pins engaging the pinion gear) would require a change in pinion gear, which in turn, will require a change in the main gear.

Personally, I'd just leave it. IMHO, the old spool design and the two fiber brakes do a better job than the new 6-pin brake assembly. The 6-pin plastic brakes just doesn't feel as linear as the fiber brakes. It brakes too much, or not enough, and quite frankly, is just inferior to the fiber brakes.

Use the stock Blue Yonder spool/brake plate/brakes and forget about the swapping. Abu spools are very easy to balance anyhow as long as you can level your line properly. Also, none of the ultracast Abus (which includes all of the Mag Elites and Blue Yonders) should be controlled by proper line level, oil viscosity, and fiber brakes. Spool tension does little as the knob presses against the bearing races rather than a spindle end, and can cause premature failure of the bearings.

I was hoping you would get in on this ...... Thanks .... It sure is a pretty reel basically it's a C4 with a power handle and 5 to 1 gears .... with a catfish on the left side plate and 6500 CUSTOM ... it's the new style power handle too ... and the same color as a BY
