My father goes in for cancer surgery day after tomorrow. We had a great day and evening.
He'll have half of his pelvis/hip removed, the top of his femur shortened by two inches, removal of muscles and wrap/attach other muscles in unnatural ways.
They say he'll walk with a cane, prayers appreciated that one day he and I will again catch fish together.

My mother had her hip replaced the hard way last fall and has used a cane since last Sept. Bottom line SnS, watch him like a hawk when he gets ready to be mobile again and make sure he knows his limits (i.e. make sure he realizes how much time he has to take walking and maneuvering in tight spaces now). My prayers and thoughts go out to you and your family.

He, you, and your entire family are in my prayers, as well as the hospital staff. Recovery won't be easy, but I strongly suspect he'll be fishing with you again sooner than you think. God Bless!!! Larry

Thank you all, I am grateful for your support and prayers.
His surgery was a couple hours longer than anticipated. They removed most of his hip and the complete ball of his femur. Good news that muscle and other tissues did not need as much removal as thought. It is a miracle to me how he will walk with a cane without a ball and socket hip joint but they think he will.
He's got many a tough second, minute, hour, day, week and month ahead. Prayers appreciated for his speedy recovery and that the biopsy comes back saying they got enough of the bone.

He came through the critical part of the surgery quite well. But now it's become very difficult, and he's not fighting. We're trying intensely to get him to cooperate.
He doesn't want to take meds, especially pain medication because he's come to know that typically means physical therapy is coming soon. He is in denial, not listening and practically refusing physical therapy.
He's also denying meds because of his overt fear of becoming addicted. So he limits movement to the absolute and is causing other problems. Concerns are being spoken about atrophy with his good leg.
It is not an easy ride. I wish there was an easy answer, I'm without one.

Matters have turned worse. My father has lost some cognitive ability through the operation, chemo or otherwise. Difficult times ahead and I will strive to assist. Pray for strength within our family.
