I went to the NB pier to watch them setup and there was an individual there with his fishing equipment.
He was hostile saying that he drove from DC and now they tell him that the pier was closed.
There are signs in several locations from route 4 to the waterfront telling about the Bay Fest.
I thought that they would have to have him escorted away. He finally got in his car spun the tires and left.
I heard several comments about "fishermen" after that.

I would be upset at travelling a long distance and then find the place closed but I will not take it out on the people that work there.
They tied to explain to him and apologized but he wanted nothing to do with it
I talked to one of the people and he said that several had shown up to fish and left. This guy was the only one to put up an argument.

I just wanted to add another chapter to the NB saga.

Doesn't surprise me at all. I've met some really nice folks on that pier and I've met some complete arseholes. I don't know why he was so mad either, all I usually see caught on that pier is short flounder, spot, croaker, and the occasional short fish of some other species. If he wants spot and croaker there are better places on base for that. Sounds like the guy was just a jackass.

tell me about it brother. People come down here and literally scream at me in the office because we didn't "inform them of the beach closures". It's not my job to inform every person in New Jersey that some beaches are closed.

I do not mind that as I really enjoy fishing with some of the guys from DC but (as said before) it is just the few that spoils it.It is not just the out of towners a couple weeks ago a couple of locals wanted to fight the beach patrol because they had to close the pier at 11:00 p.m.

Go figure.

That's what happens when ya don't pay attention as there wre several signs posted or even a phone call for information would have worked.
