Do you think the real reason Michael Strahan is not returning to his team is for " I am retired " or " I can't pass a drug test now " ? We know he can play without training camp! So is the 8 mill the Giants were offering him to play for 5 months that bad, that he will take much less to not play, and give us " his take on the game " on Sundays that much more to his liking?????

let me rephrase the question, at what point does an athlete have the right to say "I've had enough"? Just because spectators love to see others punishing their bodies does not obligate them to continue doing so.
Only the individual can decide whether they still have the desire to perform at the level they need to. After awhile I am sure money becomes a non-issue. Either you have the desire or you don't, and second guessing some one who has contributed as much as he has to his team seems in poor taste.

My first response was perhaps a bit harsh.
To put it more mildly, nobody likes to see someone "quit" at the top ot their game, but many are quick to write them off as soon as they are considered a "has been". That is a tremendous amount of pressure to keep an aging body performing at the same level.
Many keep going when they shouldn't, others quit before "their time" is up- in other people's view.

Right and I think that they are used to the limelight and once retired are worried about the fans forgetting them.
They just cannot get used to the lack of attention.
My 2 cents

Me thinks that Farve is going through this very same thing.

I agree. Favre's perennial drama queen retirement talk had gone on far too long as it was. Don't get me wrong, I think Favre has heart, and he's fun to watch play. I wonder sometimes, though, when I see him lob every tenth ball down the field into no-man's land like a rookie if he ever learned anything during his many years in the league. (Top QB all-time my ***) To me, it only seemed fitting that the last pass the threw at Lambeau was a big INT. I think he didn't want to go out that way. Favre's a tough one to get a "grip" on. On the one hand, he seems to be a warrior; on the other, he seems to just require constant attention at times.
