Senator John McCain has urged the Bush administration to bypass Congress and spend a whopping one trillion dollars on bad mortgages.

In three interviews on Tuesday, the Republican presidential nominee called on the US Treasury Department to address the economic crisis independently and without congressional approval.

In a Tuesday interview with CNN, Senator McCain said another reason the plan failed to gain approval was that the nation remains skeptical about White House intentions.

"We haven't convinced people that this is a rescue effort not just for Wall Street but for Main Street America," he explained on his campaign trail in Des Moines, Iowa.

He then proposed that President Bush exercise his executive privileges and unilaterally spend $1 trillion to purchase home mortgages.

Here is a quick look into 3 former Fannie Mae executives who have brought down Wall Street:

Franklin Raines was a Chairman and Chief Executive Officer at Fannie Mae. Raines was forced to retire from his position with Fannie Mae when auditing discovered severe irregulaties in Fannie Mae's accounting activities. At the time of his departure The Wall Street Journal noted, " Raines, who long defended the company's accounting despite mounting evidence that it wasn't proper, issued a statement late Tuesday conceding that "mistakes were made" and saying he would assume responsibility as he had earlier promised. News reports indicate the company was under growing pressure from regulators to shake up its management in the wake of findings that the company's books ran afoul of generally accepted accounting principles for four years." Fannie Mae had to reduce its surplus by $9 billion.

Raines left with a "golden parachute valued at $240 Million in benefits. The Government filed suit against Raines when the depth of the accounting scandal became clear. http://housingdoom.com/2006/12/18/fannie-charges/ . The Government noted, "The 101 charges reveal how the individuals improperly manipulated earnings to maximize their bonuses, while knowingly neglecting accounting systems and internal controls, misapplying over twenty accounting principles and misleading the regulator and the public. The Notice explains how they submitted six years of misleading and inaccurate accounting statements and inaccurate capital reports that enabled them to grow Fannie Mae in an unsafe and unsound manner." These charges were made in 2006. The Court ordered Raines to return $50 Million Dollars he received in bonuses based on the miss-stated Fannie Mae profits.

Tim Howard - Was the Chief Financial Officer of Fannie Mae. Howard "was a strong internal proponent of using accounting strategies that would ensure a "stable pattern of earnings" at Fannie. In everyday English - he was cooking the books. The Government Investigation determined that, "Chief Financial Officer, Tim Howard, failed to provide adequate oversight to key control and reporting functions within Fannie Mae,"

On June 16, 2006, Rep. Richard Baker, R-La., asked the Justice Department to investigate his allegations that two former Fannie Mae executives lied to Congress in October 2004 when they denied manipulating the mortgage-finance giant's income statement to achieve management pay bonuses. Investigations by federal regulators and the company's board of directors since concluded that management did manipulate 1998 earnings to trigger bonuses. Raines and Howard resigned under pressure in late 2004.

Howard's Golden Parachute was estimated at $20 Million!

Jim Johnson - A former executive at Lehman Brothers and who was later forced from his position as Fannie Mae CEO. A look at the Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight's May 2006 report on mismanagement and corruption inside Fannie Mae, and you'll see some interesting things about Johnson. Investigators found that Fannie Mae had hidden a substantial amount of Johnson's 1998 compensation from the public, reporting that it was between $6 million and $7 million when it fact it was $21 million." Johnson is currently under investigation for taking illegal loans from Countrywide while serving as CEO of Fannie Mae.

Johnson's Golden Parachute was estimated at $28 Million.

WHERE ARE THEY NOW?

FRANKLIN RAINES? Raines works for the Obama Campaign as Chief Economic Advisor

TIM HOWARD? Howard is also a Chief Economic Advisor to Obama

JIM JOHNSON? Johnson hired as a Senior Obama Finance Advisor and was selected to run Obama's Vice Presidential Search Committee

IF OBAMA PLANS ON CLEANING UP THE MESS - HIS ADVISORS HAVE THE EXPERTISE - THEY MADE THE MESS IN THE FIRST PLACE. Would you trust the men who tore Wall Street down to build the New Wall Street ?

Tell you what...the more I think about it,,,I may just vote for Obama.

But before I do, I am gonna convert all my investments into gold bullion and sit back and watch the country and the economy go to hell and do nothing but fish. Then in 4 years, I will stick my head out of the world I have made for myself and decide if I want to come out again....my bet is 50-50 I won't

I am tired of it folks, the media, the crap, the lies and the mis-use and theft of American tax payer dollars.

I'm not exactly sure what this has to do with: Senator John McCain has urged the Bush administration to bypass Congress and spend a whopping one trillion dollars on bad mortgages.
He then proposed that President Bush exercise his executive privileges and unilaterally spend $1 trillion to purchase home mortgages.

But hey who am I to confuse the facts with issues.

McCain was urging Bush to do something which is already in his power, and which the money is already there for. Not like he was urging him to throw away the Constitution and do something unilaterally which isn't in the office of the president. Personally, I'd rather Bush have done that then beg Congress to make us Socialists.

The "IRANIAN" story is BOGUS!!! Notice the difference in the two articles. They are hardly the same. Furthermore, I never said the premise was wrong. I DO, however, question certain sources. Keep in mind that the LAST 2 sources Southern Man cited was the "Texas Observer" and "Mother Jones"!!! Now, we have a quote from an IRANIAN SOURCE!!! What I AM saying is that anyone who get's their news from these sources and then has the gall to actually CITE them as if they are legitimate brings his judgement into question, and therefore, Southern Man has absolutely NO credibility with me. I now know, as does everyone else on here, how his opinions are formed and the source of his so-called "information". It's also nice to know what the weather report is in Saudi Arabia and the fact that you can also get the same article in "Persian" if you are so inclined. Gimme a break!!! This is rediculous!!!! If you choose to buy into his "legitamacy", that's your problem. Knowing the left-wing Obama Supporting so-called "mainstream media" the way I do, they would have been ALL OVER THIS...or has there been some shift I'm not aware of and are they now favoring McCain??? Obviously, one has to look at the entire context of his remarks, but I'm sure that wasn't done either. The mere fact that the Iranian media is apparently against McCain is even MORE reason for me to support him!!!

I see essentially the same article in both press releases- you can't argue that one is bogus and one is not- they are saying the same thing. If one chooses to put a "negative" slant on it- it's no different than what goes on here in the good ol USA. Apparently anyone who doesn't "admire" the same candidate you do is BOGUS and unworthy of credibility.

You are absolutely correct in stating that the same thing goes on in the "good ole USA". One only need to watch Oprah, NBC, MSNBC, CNN, The View, David Letterman, the "EMMY's", or read the New York Times, the Daily KOS, or read the rhetoric from "Move On" to know that. Kind of SICKENING if you ask me!

As far as " not admiring the same candidate as me", I'm proud to say that Ahmadinejad doesn't "admire the same candidate" as me, and for that, I'm extremely pleased. He'd rather have someone sit across the table from him that is inexperienced, naive, and one whom he could make a complete fool of.

HOWEVER...let me beat Southern Man to the punch!!! Here's another "unbiased" article from Iran that supports Obama. Let's all do what the Iranians want and vote for Obama like good little children of the Ayatollah!!! Any of you who can't see the "slant" in this article need to find the braille version!!!
