View Full Version : Thoughts on VP Debate...

Tonights debate will obviously be a big test for Gov. Palin. Conservatives and liberals alike have had a lot to say about her interview with Katie Couric. Here's what I think she is kind of going through. A couple of weeks before she was named as McCains running mate, she was asked about it, and she seemed to almost respond in disbelief. She said that the odds of her being named were pretty small and she would think about if the time came. She obviously didn't ASK to be the VP nominee. Here's a woman, by all account very successful in what she does, now under a microscope like she probably never imagined.

I really kind of feel sorry for her. If she doesn't completely dominate Biden tonight, she stands a pretty good chance of hurting McCains campaign. If that happens, this woman who just two months ago was running the State of Alaska to the approval of 80%+ of her constituants, she will find herself as the scapegoat by her own party. Though I do not intend to vote for her ticket, she is likable enough that it would be sad to say the least to see her take the heat for the ticket.

McCain is doing enough all by himself to ruin his campaign. His own party will be his downfall, they do not trust him.

If they do lose, I'm sure Sarah Palin will do just fine back in Alaska.

I think she did pretty good in the debate. Heck, I'm wondering if these other interviews were flubbed on purpose to lull Biden into a false sense of security. If so, I don't think the plan worked as well as they'd've wanted it to.

I thought she did ok. She wasn't great but she wasn't bad either. She kept going off topic, back to Energy, a few times which was getting annoying. Biden wasn't that great either.

Considering she was not prepard to be in this race until five weeks ago I think she did an exceptional job against a member of Senate who has been there for 30+ years. If given the chance I would like to see her clean up Washington some. She is bascically just a normal middle class citizen of America. Like one of us per say. Thats exactly what we need in Washington a "normal intelligent American". I am an independent but I will vote McCain/Palin this year. Why you ask? Well The Center of Biological Diversity for one. All Fisherman/Hunters need to be on one side. The Democrats will continue to support the environazis and take more of our Public lands away from us not to mention raise taxes "Read My Lips". She for one will attempt if not succeed at stopping this. Its a fact. Two, Obama and who he decides to associate with and keep close to him. the Dreaded Three that brought down wall street. He does not have the experience or the balls to defend this country. Remember 9/11 after the Defense cuts of the Clinton Administration. And I do beleive the Democrats would have had a better chance after watching both debates if the ticket was backwards. Say BIDEN/OBAMA that seems like the only logical choice to me. He has way more experience than Obama. Biden even said Obama was not ready to be President. Senator Biden is Obama still not ready to be President? You said it. If you did not mean it why did you say it? Are you a Flip FLOPPER?

I agree i feel sorry for her too, she has alot of potential im just not sure she would be the Best choice for the country right now.
She was cracking under minimal pressure for around 3 minutes 3/4 of the way through however she did manage to pull herself together though. Still not so sure i'd bet on this Philly...not only us but other Country's see it as a sign of weekness.

Like i said maybe down the road maybe Gov. for a state with more of a challenge. or VP after she gets more seasoned.

The Country isn't in a position for trial and error right now!
We need someone who can hit the ground running!!!

I wish the people that prepped her for the debate would sit down with me before my next job interview. I was annoyed that they were both reading from notes.

I would like to see a reall debate, no note, nothing to fall back on just two people sitting down and using their brains to communicate their ideas and the plans to the voters.

I did like the way that she dumbed her self down to make it look like she was the typical house hold mother (shopping, kids, etc). Please she is a Govenor and a millionaire. Do you think she runs to CVS to pick up toilet paper or the grocery store to grab a gallon of milk. Like Biden said. He use to do that, but he as moved on. Bad thing is people buy into that stuff and love to hear the"well golly gee dontcha know willikers *winks to camera* ".

Yep. And she said she doesn't agree with the Big Maverick on alot of things, she said that she'll not carry his policies forward should the BM pass, and most notable is that she hasn't said what her policy stance is on the many issues. Palin the question dodger... and she ain't too good at it either.

Basically she's gonna do whatever the heck she wants to do... I think 8 years of "whatever the heck Cheney wants" was QUITE enough. She's stubborn, not contemplative, refusing of input from subject experts, has a reputation for casting to the side those that don't agree... but if you think her 5 week speedo lesson is adequate for the complexities facing the Nation then by all means vote your conscience...

The betting odds tell much more than the pundits could ever say. See what people who are willing to actually bet on the process are saying. The odds of Palin being dropped from the ticket dropped dramatically after the debate, but at the same time the odds of the Democratic ticket winning the election crept up further (the latter odds have risen steadily each day since the financial crisis started making headlines)

Yep, she's a millionaire. I think her and her husband's combined wealth is 1.2 million. Wonder if that includes their fishing boats and nets? However, she IS the typical household mother. Remember, please, that she went into politics by joining the PTA out of concern for her children's education in PUBLIC school. Then, moved on up in a natural progression, each time because she felt she could do a better job then the incumbent, not because she was trying to springboard into Washington.

Isn't it funny that we keep saying we don't want the same old Washington insider, the same old dishonest politician, the same old same old? And yet, when someone who is truly new appears....all people can do is tear her down for NOT being a Washington insider, NOT being a dishonest politician, NOT being the same old same old.

One thing is for sure, when Palin talks about hard times, at least she lived through them. Unlike Biden who plagiarised a Welsh politicians biography and claimed it was his own.

Before the first Presidential debate, Cristiane Amanpour (sp) of CNN told of a debate she watched before the French elections. She commented that the two candidates were seated at opposite ends of an oval table with two moderators between them. The mods would ask a question and then let the candidates freely discuss the issues. No holds barred. She said it made for a terrific dialog and an even better debate.

Not that candidates here would ever agree to it, but it would be fun to see.

I agree with you, wolfva, about how people say they want something different and then are willing to criticize her for not being a professional, seasoned politician. Biden didn't say anything I wouldn't expect to hear from someone of that wing of his party, and really Palin didn't either. Biden is always going to give off that air of "canned-answer-know-it-all-ism" because that's who he is. No surprises. I think some folks on the forum who have said that she "got some points back" so to speak after the business with Gibson and Kourick(sp?) are correct. If her job was to "connect" with folks, I think she did that. I am glad that SnS (maybe on the other thread) posted that about the "inaccuracies" from both sides; I had not had a chance to look into that today. I did see Fred Thompson after the debate talking about some things Biden said that weren't true, but that article was the first time I had seen both sides of it. IMO, the McCain/Palin ticket is going to HAVE to make an effort to distance itself from Bush if they plan on winning this thing.

I think some folks on the forum who have said that she "got some points back" so to speak after the business with Gibson and Kourick(sp?) are correct. Realistically those points would put her at sum zero, that is neither ahead nor behind. And, as pathetic as it may seem, this strategy may ultimately prevail. If her job was to "connect" with folks, I think she did that. I've heard some say that the debate turned them off from Palin. That she's too personal, too much about herself, and unable to relate to the problems of others. I am glad that SnS (maybe on the other threadYes... in another thread.../COLOR]) posted that about the "inaccuracies" from both sides [COLOR="Red"]Hey I'm not attesting to the facts of the post, as I did not independently validate them. Although I will say that my review shows that those statements are in the realm of being factual. I did note a few language and conveyances that could be questions... we'll leave that to the trolls.; I had not had a chance to look into that today. I did see Fred Thompson after the debate talking about some things Biden said that weren't true, but that article was the first time I had seen both sides of it. Thank you, I stive to present balance, but I'm only human... Fred Thompson... good grief...IMO, the McCain/Palin ticket is going to HAVE to make an effort to distance itself from Bush if they plan on winning this thing.

BHT:

I'm now presenting a topic that is surely to be criticized. It is my opinion.

The current problems are significant from many respects, more on that in a moment. But Palin's refusal to discuss the past is indicative of her (and McCain's) proclivity. Any reasonable person cannot assert that the policies of the past decade are reasonable, unless of course you are a top 1 percent wealth holder, or allied with the Corporate strangehold, or some perverse definition of a "patriot." Palin simply doesn't have the moxy to break out of the one-liner modicum, the singular agenda, the "aw shucks" presentation. Once again... this is just my opinion.

Anyone who speaks loudly but cannot associate with the significance of the current problems is someone with whom I have little regard. The current problems have been caused by many factors, and that is not my point (but those trolls who want to comb over this topic endlessly are more than welcome to make their points... I'll not respond unless they announce it as their opinion or otherwise provide support.) Continuing with my opinion, anyone who does not want to speak of change is part of the problem. Change is required, nothing less is to beg for failure.

The Obama campaign has come out clear and announced a directive of change. The McCain campaign, although not so clear, does the same when the continue to announce themselves as "mavericks." The problem with the mavericks is that they will not acknowledge their role with the current problems nor will they denouce what they now know to be improper and this, IMO, will be their downfall. Palin's show last night is an extension of denial when she refuses to answer a question as asked. If such can be said of Biden then someone please point it out. (Once again, anyone who has read what I've written should know that I am not a Biden fan.)

Instead of discussing another issue (the Jail Out)... I post another thread (otherwise risk complaints from the trolls)...

Palin didn't refuse to discuss the past, she chided Biden for the Democrat's proclivity to only concentrate on the past. Frankly, it doesn't matter what Bush did, it matters that it's been done and now the next President has to move on. I think she was right to chide him. The Democrat's main platform is, "Bush BAD! McCain=Bush! McCain BAD!". But McCain isn't Bush. He's McCain.

I'll be honest, I was getting tired if Ifill asking Biden a question and he seguing into, "George Bush did this and this and that was WRONG!" The Democrats really need to update their political playbook; George Bush isn't running for President, so they should stop running against him.

Obama has put out a directive for 'change' SnS. You're right about that. However, change to what? He hasn't actually explained that. It's just, "Change! Change! BAWK! CHANGE! Obama want a vote BAWK! Change!" All he seems to be saying is an Obama presidency will be different from a Bush presidency. Well, duh. So will a McCain presidency.

In "your opinion" McCain is responsible for problems in America because he has been a Senator for a long time..but Biden is somehow a vote of change?

In "your opinion" Palin refused to answer questions but Biden was talking on point..but didnt the moderator continually end questions with "neither of you answered the question that I asked of you.."?

In "your opinion" any person who views things differently than you is considered a troll...but dont you hop onto any and every thread and start to expouse your opinion as if it was annointed by God?

And in "your opinion" any person who does not have major issues with the past 8 years is either "top 1 percent wealth holder, or allied with the Corporate strangehold, or some perverse definition of a "patriot." or else they are considered not "reasonable." That blanket statement right there contradicts everything you ever try and say. The hypocrisy on you various posts is rediculous. Those who disagree on your points are trolls or unreasonable, but you expect everyone to nod their head and say "wow sns, you make great points on everything! I can not believe I never had you in my life before!"...Rediculous...

Some of us will always prevail regardless of what goes on at Main Street American. All it takes is hardwork, dedication, and a little bit of luck and most importantly common sense:D. Which is what should be used while casting a vote in the election.

As far as you assuming I like the way things are I guess that would depend on your definition of like:D. I dont agree with certain things that I see happening but it is not something that I have control over or something I blame on one specific person. I will say that I am far better off than I was 4-8 years ago but I did leave the Washington DC area:D. But the only one that is responsible for my "CHANGE" is me.

So yes I dont enjoy alot of drama and I would like to see things stay

PALIN and SIMPLE as you say. If Obama does get elected I am sure he will try very hard to fix things and if he cant he will just JERRY rig it.

She is an idiot even though pretty she gets the call on the Red phone at 3am what then....even if we had to eat spam we would still have a country,House and Table left to sit down and eat the Spam -I like mine fried on rye w-extra mustard by the way.

The 50k she spent re-decorating her office when there werent the funds....

How about the people she fires if she gets pissed off. A veteran police officer with a pention, a Librarian....Palan is a loose Cannon...

Sheeesh hows that for change ...when she gets done we will be asking for more of the same.

Not to mention the Banned Books that bridge to nowhere ....I dont know? she could maybe sway my Vote if she were to build a Pier to nowhere say 25miles into the Atlantic.... that might be kind of nice.

Dunno about the 50K, but obviousely there must have been funds; can't buy something with nothing.

Which veteran police officer? She fired an administrator who wasn't doing his job. Unless you meant Wooten? It's funny, the ACLU screams whenever a cop tazes a knife wielding opponent, but let a man taze a 10 yr old and as long as it can be used as political fodder against a Republican then he's an A-OK joe?

Which librarian did she fire? She didn't fire any.

Which books did she ban? She banned none. She DID ask a rhetorical question about what the librarian would do if asked to ban books because at the time there were groups who WERE demanding books be banned. The librarian was not fired. And that list that was passed around of books she wanted banned...some weren't even written at the time she was Mayor...it's bogus.

Bridge to nowhere? Yep, she was for it before she was against it. BUT: She DID kill the bridge, ultimately. Unlike Obama and Biden who voted for it BOTH times, even after it was shown to be highly unpopular. In any case, it is a Governor's job to get money from the Feds. It's a Senator's job (supposedly) to be a good caretaker of said money. Governors look out for their States; Senators for the country. So, in this case which one was doing her job?

S&S? The word is 'plain', not 'Palin'. Or do you think you're being esoterically cute by isninuating that Palin is simple? Knock it off, it's a 3rd grade insult at best. Personally, I think you're just jealous that a lowly woman has done what you could never do. Sorry dude, but it's the milenium; women aren't consigned to be 'bare footed and pregnant' or stuck in the kitchen anymore. So howabout just laying off on the mysogony for a little while, eh?

Well i think we might know who wears the pants in your Household!

You failed to respond to what if she needs to answer the Red Telephone @ 3am?

Also are you not for the Pier to nowhere?

You act as if you know her personally or you are on the campaign payroll!!!

Besides what do you stand to personally gain if she is elected?

Iv'e said it before really not 100% against her but the Country is in no position to afford her right now. You know what i mean it goes without saying.

Besides MCcain, is so out of touch with reality. It would just be a
cluster P*%&k.

And she is riding on his Ticket anyway, that in itself being a mis-nomer. So save the convoluted response.

i also think that, in another thread he stated that his wife stays in the house. maybe that's another reason for him to hate this woman. a woman who has accomplishes far better things than the woman he had cleaning his house.

You failed to respond to what if she needs to answer the Red Telephone @ 3am?

why does it have to be red?
why can't the phone that rings at 3AM be yellow? or blue?
i like charteuse, they have good hook up rates. can we change the phone to charteuse?
when i become president, that will be my first exceutive roder, change the red phone to charteuse.

You're question about the 3am phone call is interesting.
Sarah Palin would do what she has to do.

Lets say you just hurt someone in Sarah Palins familly and she had you in the crosshairs of her rifle scope, do you think she would pull the trigger?

Well...when Obama answers the phone at 3AM, he'll probably have to kick out several people he's in bed with...like REZCO, AYERS, RAINES, AL-MANSOUR, JOHNSON, Rev. Jerimiah WRIGHT, etc...just to get to the phone!!!

As far as what he has to gain with HIS (and her) election...how about HONESTY, ACCOUNTABILITY, and NO BULL$HIT!!!

What goes without saying is that the country CANNOT AFFORD OBAMA right now. NO EXPERIENCE, and a QUESTIONABLE PAST THAT HE REFUSES TO DISCUSS!!! Lets wait for him to talk about AYERS, AL-MANSOUR, REZCO, RAINES, TIM JOHNSON, etc...etc...etc...

You make this sound like it's an election of Obama vs. Palin...pretty damn bad when your Presidential Candidate on YOUR ticket has to compare himself with NUMBER 2 on the opposing ticket!!! What does that say??? Face it...he is nothing more than a "left wing socialist" who associates with "left wing socialists" and common terrorists!!! Go to "GOOGLE" and do some research...I'm not asking you to watch FOX News here...just look at what is out there!!! He is a SOCIALIST!!! Nothing More!!! He hates America, hates our ideals, hates the troops, and hates our way of life!!! Go ahead and email him and ask him to explain his associations...as a "loyal democrat"!!! Ask him to explain his record at Columbia and Harvard!!! Ask him how he got into Harvard...how he made it as head of the HARVARD LAW REVIEW and NEVER have EVER written an article for it. Ask him about AL-MANSOUR...ask him WHO PAID HIS WAY TO HARVARD!!! Ask him about his FUND RAISING in both BILL AYERS' and AL-MANSOUR's homes!!! Ask him about his association with ACORN!!! He refuses to talk about it and brushes AYERS off as "just someone who lives in my neighborhood"!!! Yeah...same neighborhood as REZCO and FARAKON!!! Cozy, huh??? Believe me...this is just getting started!!! The left leaning mainstream media REFUSES to acknowledge this...but it WILL come to light!!! In the meantime, continue listening to his "talking points" and refuse to acknowledge reality. He is a SOCIALIST, and he has a HIDDEN AGENDA!!! Mark my word, bookmark or flag this post, and if he ever DOES (God Forbid) get elected, I'll remind you of it when the dollar disappears and we're all spending Euros and Drachmas and can't go on the beach to fish!!! In the meantime, I want to hear NO BITCHING from those of you who support him...you'll have NO right to do so unless you take your blinders off before the election and face reality!!! MY candidate didn't make it past the primary, so John McCain is only my SECOND CHOICE, but I'd go with HOWDY DOODY before I'd go with NObama!!! NO RECORD...NO SUBSTANCE...NO EXPERIENCE...NO EXPLAINATIONS...NOBAMA!!!

That is so True. I agree with the first statement 100%.

If Obama is elected he will end up like JFK. Biden don't bother me that much at least he is experienced. Hell he should have ran for Pres and Obama Vice.

Second scenario is Obama will mess up so bad that the country will not even have a chance to elect another black president for 50 years because of his failure.

And you've been told plenty of times to mind your manners yet you continue to act like a jack azz. Who do you think you are?

You've got alot of audacity to criticize me, my wife, and the choices we've made. As if you are g*d and set the rules.... it's exactly this type of thinking that needs to CHANGE.

But since you've started the piss, how about telling us about you're lovely wife, and your wonderful child(ren)??... Come on and be honest so that I may launch some underhanded mudslinging crap your way... (whoaaa Nelly.... rest assured I've never sink to the level you did with the comment you made (shown by the quote above in all its worthless piss and punk glory).... rest certain that calling you a JA is not sinking to your level, it's being objective.)

Sprtscar and JLannon are painfully close with their comment suggesting who I would write in for the vote. And both of you know what I'm talking about.

I'm confident that ya'all are the ones who are loosing it... ya simply cannot stand to think that your way ain't the only way.... its that palin and simple.

A complete response is forthcoming. I did say today and today it will be. Currently I have several issues to resolve, patience and I will do as I said.

Meanwhile, it is also consistent for certain individuals to continue their ad hominem approach.... but you're likely side with not acknowledging that... correct?

Why all this stuff about a Pier and Surf members wife, children etc. Would one say this is going a little overboard, in regards to comments about politicians? There are 3 groups of humans, that I put in the bottom of the barrell. Some of these wife/children comments from certain people are really not necessary. Hey guys, you want to tear up these politicians, do it, LEAAVE PERSONAL FAMILY MEMBERS OUT OF IT.
