I have an old Daiwa slosh 30 that works great except for the drag. The drag goes from off to on with very little turning of the star wheel. I've changed the drag washers but it didn't help. The drag works fine, it's just that there's not a lot of adjustment there. Any suggestions?

That's the opposite of mine....all of mine i have nearly infinate adjustment as long as I don't want to clamp down on it. The drag won't handle more than about 30 lbs of pull

Same with me, my drag is very versatile. Sounds like your reel is seizing up. You might want to open it up and grease the fiber washers with Shimano or Cal's drag grease.
Good luck, the SLOSH 30 is a great all-around reel for the surf!

PS: Gto, when do you need more than 30# of drag out of a SLOSH 30?!?!

I don't, but most other drags will clamp down to "if you can pull hard enough, the line will break", whereas this one will slip. It's more than enough for me.

Is the Slosh like a 525 where you can modify the drag pressure based on the drag stack and washer configuration? I'm not familiar with the Slosh's, but you can rearrange some thing on quite a few of the Penn's to modify the drag abilities.

Thanks for the responses! I appreciate the help!
Ya know, what I really think is needed is a conventional, like the slosh, that has a bait runner feature. That way you could make the cast, throw the bait runner lever and have a light drag while the rod is spiked, then ya get a hit, flip the lever and you're set to the fighting drag. Both of the drags would be pre-set. As it is now it's constant adjustment, back and forth.

What I used to do with Abu's fishing in heavy river current instead of mess with the drag was use the spool tensioner to tighten it up a bit. Maybe try that.

That's a Lever Drag reel.
