theoretically what is the benefit of having a magged reel vs a non mag reel???

smoother, farther cast.
smoother--self-explanatory.
farther--by not having to keep a little constant pressure and worry about blowing up... you can just sling it.

The reel's spool can be slowed with the use of magnets because of their polarity acting on the metal spool of the reel. Depending on how many magnets ar ein the reel and how big or strong they are, you get different results of polarity which will break the reel. They are smoother in most cases.

See if this article helps.

you can add mag and control when casting into the wind.
and take mag off when casting with wind

Cannot discount the confidence factor. I have my Diawa's (20, 30, 40 sha) and they are great reels but when I use my much older, 970 & 980 Penn Mags I cast just as far, sometimes further. Just knowing that I am not about to blow them up keeps me from second-guessing myself during the wind up for my cast and the casts go further many times. I love my old Penn Mags (and I am a bit of a tackle ho', too, as you can tell).

to me it doesnt matter, i can cast both just as far.
i learned on non mag, non braked reels.

but its pretty self explanatory unless you want to play with birdies.
you need some form of braking in any reel, whether centrifugal or mags

you might as well just use a spinner. xD

We have a review of the Diawa 7HT Mag Multiplier (millionaire) over here (http://www.planetseafishing.com/reviews/read/tested-daiwa-7ht-mag-multiplier/). The consensus is that it is a decent reel, but not without is problems.

Magnets in fishing reels are really just another form of a casting brake. A properly designed one is adjustable. They were 1st used on the distance casting field, they allowed the caster to back off the brake while the cast was in progress. From a fishing application they allow you to adjust to different conditions of the wind and payload, without opening the reel (Centrifugal brakes, have brake blocks and the combinations can be changed (some magged reels do too)). So one is not necessarily better than the other. But the person who uses the educated thumb will be robbing him or her self of distance, because the thumb is not fast enough and too heavy most of the times.
