Has anyone done a tricked out paint job to one of their reels? I see all the beautiful thread work on the different rods, but does a reel that looks just like the guy next to you do it justice? I understand the mechanical enhancements and the Abu's that have been totally "remodeled", but any fancy paint jobs or things of that nature?
why not?
just think of it like car body metal.
im pretty sure you can paint them.
not sure why i havent seen one yet myself..

I have a friend who does tattoo work and he has used an engraver to etch skulls and stuff on some of his ambassador reels. Ill try and get a pic of some of the work.

I have seen pics of some reels, mostly Penn, that have had the metal parts "powder coated" in different colors. When you think of the abuse a reel goes through, I'm not sure a simple "paint job" would last very long. Powder coating is more durable.

I have seen reels with Graphite frames get marbleized like they do the blanks. Each time you get a one of a kind piece.

Yeah I saw a blue and white he had done and it was pretty interesting. I have also seen reels done with gold leaf.

that is sweet, I just wish I had some artistic talent to do that.

Trust me.
It takes little talent.
You mix epoxy with paint.
On that reel. he laid down the blue first.
then dabbed white and silver on pins or toothpicks and made little streaks.
The epoxies/colors bleed together and make you look like a freakin Rembrandt.
If you want, I can tell you how I go about it.

Instructions on that would be sweet, I have an old spinner I do not use anymore that I could try it out.
As for camo, I would probably drop it in the dunes and loose it.

I found a "how to" in the library..
I have only used those little square bottles of Testors paint you get in hobby/craft stores.
Just pore off the solvent that will be sitting on top of the paint.
You can probable do it right over the existing epoxy on your old rod.
Get some fat ball point pens to practice on, and give them out to your friends.
Its actually fun!
My cell phone is next..
