Went out and fished with an old Penn 200 Surfmaster that I bought at a garage sale. In the winter I cleaned it up, epoxied in a magnet, and installed new drag washers.
Combined with a 9 foot Tica 2 to 6 oz rod, 17 lb Suffix and slinging 5oz lead and cut bait, makes SWEET casting. I am really can't believe how silent and smooth it is. I guess the balanced spool helped.
Tight Lines!

Yup...it's not called a Surfmaster for no reason! The Squidder and the 155 are also great reels for the surf. Maybe not as modern as some of the Daiwas, 525's, etc, but stronger and more bullet proof, although generally a little heavier.
