I recently made a post questioning what happened to the big blues in VA waters. Of course, the ever present Omega 3 thing came up concerning the harvesting of Menhaden in the bay. Today I go to the fridge to make a sandwich, reach for the Hellmann's mayo on the top shelf, and the first thing I see is OMEGA 3!!!!! SON OF A!!!!!!!!!!!! Freakin Omega 3!!! I know there are other sources for Omega 3 than fish, but it definitely made me think.

Hahaha.

As far as Omega 3, sure you can get it from other sources of meat, just not the high concentrations like you can in fish. I think it will be a fad and drift away eventually (hopefully), so they can stop killing all of the fishies!!!

It is also present in certain vegetables as well. Lowers bad cholesterol and raises the good. Flax seeds are rich in Omega 3, for instance.

Soy beans are also a viable substitute.

Menhaden are the staple for the Chesapeake Bay.
Menhaden are a vitally important part of the Chesapeake Bay ecosystem. "You could easily claim that menhaden is the most important fish in Chesapeake Bay, if not in this region of the world," says senior scientist Bill Goldsborough of the Chesapeake Bay Foundation. "It is what an ecologist would call a 'keystone species'."

Menhaden are crucial for two reasons: they are the primary food source for many of the game fish that live in the bay, and menhaden are also what is known as 'filter-feeders'—they help clean the polluted waters of the
If we want a good clean and fishable bay then we need the menhaden.

Omega 3 is great for your health. The good news is Krill Oil is better to get omega 3 then fish oil So they could leave the fish alone and use krill. Krill is supsed to be a renewable food source unlike fish which are dwindling. Krill Oil also has high levels of anti oxidnats more and better then fish. Also the omega 3 are bound to the omega 3 which make them easier to absorb. To Learn More About Omega 3 -> Krill Oil

Speaking of big blues. One on of my best memories is going to hatteras island 20 years or so ago the day after thanskgiving. I was going surfing and when I called the surf report they mentioned blue fish so I grabbed my fishing pole and an old hopkins. I get to Hatteras and both sides of the road are lined with cars all the way to Rodanthe. I see people carrying huge blues - so I am like guess I am going fishing. Anyway I got to rodanthe and they were catching blues one after another - I mean this was a blitz - not sure what they weighed but they were 10 -15 pounds. So I rigged up and cast out - I swear you could see the blues biting this lure before it hit the water. I caught one right off the bat. the funny thing was that I had this real light tackle pole ( I am not the most adept fishermen) and my blue was pulling my line all over the place. I think I caught like 15 blues that first cast - cause I crossed everyone's line. Hey like I said I am a surfer! Anyway I caught 3 in a row and the blues bit my hooks off I swear. It was an old and rusty hopkins but they bit my hooks off! I went and got a new lure and the blitz was over when I got back. SO I went surfing but that is something I will never forget! It was KILLER DUDE!

You can also check out nordicnaturals . com. They have a better grade of fish pill than the bums in the Bay and they harvest their catch in a much more ecologically balanced way.

Even if there wasn't a fish pill demand, the bunker is mostly used in farm feed. I say use the chicken byproducts more and get the bums out of the Bay.
