Friday I had to put my other dog to sleep. She was half shepherd/half lab and was 18 years old. I had to carry her up the stairs when she went outside and was worried about the winter time. The vet said she should be put to sleep as she had a lot of arthritis and was breaking down in the hips.
The vet put her on a blanket and we held her as the vet did the injection. The dog looked at me and put her head in wife's lap and died. It was quick and not painful. ( for the dog I almost lost it.)

Sorry to hear that. It's always hard but it's better than the alternative.

Hey JC,
Sorry about you loss. I have been there. I have a 6 yr old Boxer/Black Lab and a 2 yr old Yellow Lab. They may be animals but they are my children and they are treated as such. I know when their time comes for mine I'm gonna set down and have a good conversation with Mr. Daniels, and like Smooth said it's better than the alternative.

I had to do this a couple years back with one of my old dogs.
That's tough, sorry for your loss. It is like losing a member of your family.

Jill and I had to do the same thing a week ago today. I still hear that dog walking around the house. It's a real bummer! :(

Thank You
I keep looking for her. I woke up last night and didn't see her. I jumped up thinking that I left her outside. Then it dawned on me and I had trouble getting back to sleep.

Hey I admit it, I have lost it so many times I can't remember over putting a pet down; had to put 2 of our dogs down a month apart in '06 and my cat this pass July.
Am lucky my sister-in-law is a vet and usually comes to our home to do it.
FYI - Most Vet's will come to your home to put your pet down.
Once again sorry for the lost of your beloved friend.

Sorry for the loss of your friend. Had to go through the same thing with a thirteen year old boxer. He was a good friend to me. As with you guys, I held his head and tried to comfort him till his last breath. It's a very hard thing to swallow, but we move forward knowing they are waiting for us when it's our turn.;)

Sorry to hear that jcreamer, I assure you there are alot of us that know that sorta feeling. After awhile you think back on all the good times, forget the bad, and it just warms yah to the core when you need it to most... Thats what happens when I think about my dogs..
