Turkey's defrosting....all the bread crumbs have been prepped.....the green bean casserole and sweet potatoes are ready for baking...
So, what to do on Turkey Day morning...
I have a tradition of going out to do some striper / speckle trout fishing. Been doin' it fer a few years.
Get up early...put the bird in the oven...and cast lures for a few hours while everyone is still sleeping. This helps with the appetite.
The great thing is possibly having fresh fish with the turkey and dressings.
Hope yall have a great Thanksgiving....and say a little prayer for those less fortunate or unable to share in your feast!

Same deal for me, but this is my second annual outing. We're not cooking this year, the in-laws are, so that gives me even more time to get out and whack some fish!

Too far from the coast for T'giving fishing here. I do envy that setup you folks have.
We have a tradition of getting my family of 6 together with my sister and her 7 kids and 1 husband... they come to our place, the cousins have a blast getting together. We invite over local young couples as well who are in town but have no dinner plans, and we all have an afternoon of trap shooting out in our field. Then dinner... 20 or more around our table. After dinner a nice bonfire, hot cider, and a general good time on into the evening.
Wonder why we only do this once a year.

Boss Dogg is making her turkey and stuffing.
Me:
Orange glazed duck with cornbread stuffing with maple flavored sausage, dried currants, cranberries, blue berries and crush black walknuts.
Cornish hens stuffed with wild rice, black bean, and chick pea stuffing
Sweet potato casserole with raisins, pineapple, pecans and marshmallows.
veggies, butter milk biscuts.
Desert: Pumpkin butter cake, southern pecan pie, and wet bottom shoefly pie.
And if I have the time, catfish fingers and hushpuppies for an appatizer.

Thursday morning my wife wants me to deepfry a turkey.( Last year I did three and when done was tired of turkey.) We are going to neighbors house and then are having some people over saturday.
They all have enough food to feed an infantry company and we always have a house full of left overs.

I usually cook up a little something for the family. This year it's going to be a bit different. We're going to be celebrating in the hospital with my mother. Bless her heart, she's been in there for 4 or 5 months now, but she's hanging in there.

Hope everything works out okay. That is a good place to spend it as like my mother she deserves it.
