I just bought two Daiwa Sweepfire 4000B's Saltwater Spinners from Sportsman Warehouse for $11.95 each. :D:D

They are listed as light Saltwater Reels and seem to be real smooth with the bail flip and they seem to be very sturdy

They are listed as having a 260 yard capacity of 12 lb mono so you could easily pile 250 yards of 20lb fireline or braid on them and they come with the Daiwa's Twistbuster system and their ABS long distance casting aluminum spool.

For that price, if they give you any trouble you can just throw them in the trash can.

I loaded them half full with 20lb pink ande and then topped them off with 20lb Fireline, put them on a 7ft MH Graphite Road and could cast on dry land 65-70 yards with 2 oz weight.

Now how they hold up, I cant say but they are sweet long casters for a mid/light weight saltwater reel for $12.:D:D:D

Oh yeah,,, their drag is listed as a max of 14 lbs so with 20 lb line the drag at max will slow them down but will not allow a break off, so that is good in one way but you could get spooled if you don't pay attention.

local sports shop has them closing out at $12 each as well.
I have almost bought one several times before, and each time I decide to just spend about $8 more and get a Quantum Pulse 30 closing out on eBay.

The Daiwa is smooth and feel good for the price, I agree with your assessment. But after all that I decided... it's still a graphite frame and you can flex the stem with your hand without all that much pressure. Fine for bass and bream, not so fine for salt (IMHO). You never know when some 15lb ray will take your croaker bait.

The Pulse is all metal, and smooth as silk. I think it's the real value out there right now... the guy selling seems to have a hundred or so 30's and 40's to get rid of. So you camp out on each one and every other week or so one ends the auction for about $12, with $6 shipping.

My $0.02

ya get what you pay for. Great reel for bailing spots or bait fish ( until the anti-reverse or gears fail) . As fer a 'go to' reel fer that trophy fish or something that will be fished hard...spend the $$$ $$$

My thoughts exactly,,,which is why I got a Daiwa BG 60 for Christmas, ie, built like a tank,go to reel,,, and two Sweep Fires for the smaller stuff.

Matter of econ and preference:cool:

I bought a D-wave combo for $20 about 3yrs ago after losing a rod/reel over the side of a pier (lesson learned). To this day, I use this combo for casting gotcha plugs, and I have never (knock on wood) had a bit of problem out of it. Have even caught a respectable 7lb black drum on it with no problem. I'm not sure if the combo is just perfectly matched or what, but I can cast a 2oz spoon a lot farther with this rod/reel than I can with any other I have ever bought, which includes Penn!
I just finished spooling my new reel (SLx30sha) and hope to be able to cast it farther, but as for being happy, I have had no complaints with this CHEAP rod/reel!

imo the d wave rod is pretty good(but reel sucks) after one dunking, it totally failed(ui have had many other cheap reels survive dunkings). the rod as plently of backbone and yet sensitive. eventhough i will be buyign an ugly stick of some model as my next rod of a tica surf rod( to get the distance)

Wish I could buy more D Wave Rods,, but they only came with the combo and the Reels,,,,well, can't say they totally sucked but they do not hold up to to Surf fishing.

I would buy more if I could fine them, toss the reels or at least put them in a "brother-in-law" bag and use the rods for everything...

Good Rods,,,,reels suck,,,,still worth the $30 bucks if you can find them.

At the BPS at Myrtle Beach over the summer, they had the D-Wave combos for $19.99 (7-foot, I think); for someone who only fishes the pier a few times a year, that felt like a decent rod to me, and I recommended to a friend who was going down later to just pick that combo up for that price. I think the reel was a single-bearing, if I'm remembering correctly. When I got home, I checked online, and they were more expensive on the web page than they were in the store down there. I thought about doing what you said there, Fire, picking up a couple and just tossing the reels aside. :D

Nice reel for the $$$ but it is a lower end Daiwa reel.

Have fun with it

recently i did a job for someone and the customers gave me two D wave combo's with the 4000-B reel and the D-Wave 701 mhrs 7ft rods. i'm from up north but moved here about 8 months ago. since getting these combos i have caught several sheephead, numerous trout with no problems at all. i had just spooled both reels with 12lb test trilene XL clear blue when fishing from a local bridge last week i hooked into a 12lb drum. the drag seemed extremely smooth and the rod held up great. i'm not saying take them to race point bass fishing or to cape cod canal. but as far as i am concerned for the price they will hold up. like with any reels just wash them off good and every few months grease the reels and they should be great second rods on your trip. first being the penn of course. just giving my input.

I think the sweepfire reels are great for the money. I landed a 11.5 lbs blue of the beach at fort macon this summer and the reel handled the fish with little problem. I have a 3500 paired with a 7'6" tsunami rod that I can flat out cast the piss out of a 3/4 to 1 1/4 oz spoon. This combo alo doubles as a great trout rod for casting jigs from the beach. I really liked the model A reels better. The anti-reverse switch was on the back & top in lieu of bottom. As for me and my house, we will be big fans of a $12.00 reel that last more than a season.

The Sweepfire's hold up really well. I have 2 of the 2500's and 2 of the
4000's. Cant remember the name of the boat, but there is a inshore charter boat on the OBX that has used them for 3 years.....the same ones. Fishes for Trout, spanish, blues, puppies. Great for throwing gotchas. Havent tried anything of size on them though.....
