Is it necessary to put anything on the rod where it joins together to prevent it from sticking together?? If so, what is best to use??

WD-40 It might not help; but it will never hurt.

i think it actually might hurt as it would make it so slick the top might just fly off on a cast.
just keep the ends clean and there shouldn't be a problem.

I've got a few rods that will stick at times. Typically I will use candle wax or bar soap before I put them together. Just rub on the male end. Don't have a problem any more.

I don't usually use anything, but if the sections start to stick together I use instrumental slide grease. Any music store will carry it, comes in a Chapstick-type tube. It is water-proof, high viscosity and non-corrosive.

if its old style (metal) use soap. if new style (graff, fiber) don't use anything. take apart and wash with fresh after every trip. twist to get them apart.

I use wax on all of my fiberglass rod ferrules. It makes it very smooth putting it together and taking it apart. Holds it from twisting but breaks free easy enough to disassemble rod.

On smaller rods I rub the ferrule in my hair.

Grandpa taught me that 40 years ago.

U-40 ferrule lube. Makes the joint tighter and keeps it from sticking.

nothing, if they stick just lay a bag of ice on em for 5 mins and then they'll come right apart.

if its old style (metal) use soap. . . . .

That's what my dad taught me to do many years ago. I still have an old 8' Pfleuger with the metal on there that I drag out from time to time.

Like Rattler and some others have said, I don't use anything otherwise and haven't had a problem, but I generally take them apart and wipe them off after each use.

Do not use WD-40 on any Reels or Rods. For your rods after you wash them wax them with Pledge furniture wax. Reels wash and wipe down with a rag damp with Carrosin-X. WD is for wiping down Shovels and Axes.

Agreed, WD-40 is way over rated, Very antiquated, there have been many developments and improvements in the lubricant and penetrate field sense that stuff was developed.

Another for Nose Grease. Rub the Male end on the crevice on each side of your schnazola. The oils in your skin & pores work as au natural lube:--|
