Ive heard several people talk about this bad winter for fishing, does anyone know why? Where I come from you have to drill a hole to fish in the winter so Im interested to why this winter has been so slow and since I just moved to florida is it this slow every winter?

If you're talking about florida, then move this to the florida forum. You'll get better results there. ;)

From my experience, the lack of fish in an area, is usually due to the lack of bait. Fish go where they can feed.
There are other reasons, of course, if the bait is abundant, and no fish. Well, that's not a good thing.:)

Well...it all started when the Europeans started to settle in the Western Hemisphere after discovering the world was round and not flat after all. It was all down hill after that. That's about as brief as I can make it! :D I know that sounds a little facetious, but it's true. Our fish populations are declining. More recreational and commercial fishermen + increased world population + higher tech equipment + higher pressure on the fishery (game, food and bait fish all 3) = less fish.

I agree with sportsracer...I also think commercial fishing is the #1 reason...I use to fish rivers, lakes, streams when I lived in pa. and it was slow...I never could understand why a state wouldn't cancel fishing season for a year..any real fisherman would understand this...I get frustrated seeing every fish ( no matter how small) being put in the take home basket.. :fishing:

Hmmmmm...The Striper have been absolutely STACKED UP this winter. Plenty of bait and simply one of the best years I've ever had....

Maybe you're just not using the proper fishing method. Try this:
