who knows anything about the Daiwa Regal Plus Bite N' Run? looking to purchase the 5000 or 5500 and wondering what they are like. can't find a local retailer who has them on display to check out. also, if you have a used one in great shape, let's do some talking

DAIWA Black SeaLine Bite N Run
Spinning Reel
Long Casting Reels
Anglers seeking maximum saltwater durability and performance, plus the advantages of Daiwa’s Bite N’ Run™ clutch system, will find what they’re looking for in this new series. Armed with a rugged aluminum frame, four corrosion resistant CRBB bearings, Digigear™ and a powerful multi-disc drag, these reels are well equipped for battle. Bite N’ Run allows a predator to take off with a live or cut bait with the bail closed, feeling little or no resistance. You’re ready to set the hook with a simple turn of the handle.
Sealine® Black Bite N’ Run™ Features:
Four CRBB corrosion-resistant ball bearings, plus roller bearing
Automatic Bite N’ Run™ clutch
Digigear™ digital gear design
Silent Oscillation (with worm gear levelwind)
High-strength aluminum frame
Powerful, consistent multi-disc drag
Infinite Anti-Reverse
Air Bail®, strong yet extremely light
Twist Buster® line twist reduction
Convenient, rear-mounted preset adjustment
Aluminum spool with Long-Cast design

I was going to suggest the Shimano Baitrunner. After looking at the specs on this reel I have second thoughts. I like the tapering long spool. Might cast a tad further than the Shimano.
Check with Richard @ DD in Jersey. Great guy & well informed in spinning gear. If you need any help PM me. Good Luck! Stevie;)

one thing to point out is when do u actually need 33 pounds of drag unless u use briad). i usually set my reels to about 4 pounds of drag. however it is true that u dont want that nice fish wiggling into the rocks.

The Regal Plus Bite N' Run is totally different from the newer sealine. The regal has a plastic/graphite frame.I own the regal bite n run 4500(not the plus).Im not happy with its construction quality.Seems way too weak for any medium to large saltwater fish.My rotor has back and forth slack movement in it now from hooksetting fish with braid.Hard to figure that one out even though the rotor nut is tight. The reel stem on my bite n run has way too much flex during the battle.

you are right they are not even in the same class. and bluefish if you ever hook a cobia you will wish you had that 33lbs, 15 is not much I agree you only want it set around 5 lbs but if you need it its there . believe me I have been there.

I have two 5000's. haven't fished them yet but I like how they feel. not too heavy or too light. we shall see.

The 5000 and 5500 are good and sturdy...the smaller 4000 and 4500 are a little light for the surf..a lot of flex reeling in weight or fighting a fat blue. I love my 5000 though. Great reels for the money.

The SEALINE BLACK....is my go to reel right now. awesome!
