View Full Version : What's A Good 3-4 oz Spinning Rod?

After a pair of rods for smaller fish with a sweet spot of 3-4 oz tossing 2 hook bottom rigs, 5 oz only when the weather is bad. A fast action and good bite detection are musts.

I'd like to go with spinning, preferably 9'-10'6" 2 piece since they'll get pier/jetty duty as well as an occasional surf trip. Budget would be great. (>$75 each)

Thanks.

same thing I'm looking for ... A Tsunami Airwave 9' rated for 1 to 3 1/2 oz ... I figure just lobbing it out there for mullets it should be great and @ digitaldagger they are $73 plus shipping

Will that Airwave snap cast 3-4 oz or is it overrated?

I think you would be ok with the 3-6oz model.

You need to check out Daiwa's new Sealine Surf Rods. They come in lengths of 7 feet to 15 feet, lure weights from 1-6 oz and line weight from 10 to 40 lb. All are 2 piece and all are listed as "Fast" action.

The really good news about them is that they are all listed for $64.95 at Cabella's.

I am going to pick one up before the spring, just haven't decided which one yet.

Here is the link to them at Cabella's.

my #1 draft pic. is my 8'6" st croix premier surf(casting)/ Med. power, Mod fast

my 2nd choice is my st croix 7' premier surf (spinning)/ med. power, mod fast

both are rated to 2 oz. but i've tossed 4 with a double drop bottom rig with no worries.

i love st coix!! don't like the price but i love 'em anyways...

For the duty you listed the good ol 2-6oz 9ft Tica's might fit the bill. I have one that loves 3-4oz & I have casted 5oz with it just fine 6oz is a little scetchy.

I think that's what I'm gonna do, for like $5 more than the Airwaves.

Thanks guys.

getting a rod a little heavier will hurt your bite detection on the table fare sized fish

Is the 9' Tica 2-6 oz too heavy? Anyone know? Looking at model UEHA527402S.

i was looking at the daiwa's also. they seem like a nice rod for the price(as long as it's not the $400 one). would like a review from some who has gotten one.

What's A Good 3-4 oz Spinning Rod?

I've got a brand new 10' AFAW, Uptide, spinning rod that is just collecting dust. I think its dialed in on your digits?...
