Hiya Folks,
I'm new to this site and when I signed up it asked me to post an introduction in the Introductions forum. Well, I couldn't find that FORUM, so here it goes.
My name is Cody and I am just south of Olympia, WA. I fish the Puget Sound and the beaches & Jetty's on the Pacific and the Columbia or BIG C as we call it here. My target fish in the Sound is blackmouth salmon during the winter months, from most of the docks and Piers in the South and central Puget sound area. As for the BIG C, I hunt keeper and oversized STURGEON. From Bonniville dam to the mouth by Buoy #10.
I have been here enjoying the Distance casting forum and hope to learn a lot from it and meet some other who enjoy this sport.

Make sure to utilize the search option in the darker blue line near the top find some archive post on the subject.

How big are the sturgeons you are keeping?
I remember growing up in Michigan; every so often you hear of fishermen getting their legs tangled in the ropes and drowning fishing for sturgeons in the Niagara Falls area. I think they were spearing them.

New State rules took affect on 01 Jan 09 . both WA & Or
The new statewide 38-inch fork length minimum size limit and 54-inch fork length maximum size limit take effect January 1, 2009, for the Columbia River and tributaries from the Wauna power lines upstream to Bonniville Dam per permanent rule.
And you can only fish for them Thurs., Fri, Sat. with barbless hooks and no live bait.
"Shaker" sturgeon are fish that measure less than 38." We catch shakers all day long! Shakers in the 25-37" inch range are very common, fight hard and are what make sturgeon fishing so much fun! Oversized Sturgeon are the norm by the Dam. some are 8 to 10 ft. And weigh up to 500lbs plus.
