I use braid for my 7' rod but when using my 11fter strictly from the surf fishing for puppy drum and anything smaller whats your opinion of braid over mono? I would be using 20lb braid or 17 lb mono. I like braid for its scensitivity on my short rod but throwing bait and sticking in a rod holder with the big rod makes that a moot point. opinions please.

sensitvity on a long rod is not a moot point.
many times the long rod is needed for distance but the fish still hit lightly.
i can feel a kingie on my 13-14' rods using braid.
plus line capacity increases dramatically

I agree.
IMO:
More abrasion resistant
More capacity
Better knot capabilty
Better cast distance

Only setbacks I see are handling the line, gloves or finger condom for casting or leadering a fish onto the sand is almost mandatory. No big deal.
And unlike mono, which you can see the cuts and scrapes and nicks in it, braid has to be checked very carefully quite often for signs of damage. Again, not a huge deal to me.

I figured I would get more distance and I like braid, so Ill keep half spooling with mono and fill it up with braid.

For me I have found mono to be more abrasion resistant than braid.

Also I have found that when you jerk quickly against braid it has a tendancy
to snap. This is just my experience with braid.

I agree to an extent. I would absolutely say mono if you're on a jetty or pier or have rocks around for sure. Those things never really hit me until I think about it cause I very, very rarely fish those spots. I just base what I say from using both on smooth beaches and abuse coming mostly from rubbing the bars or sharks(which is the only thing I use braid for anyhow).
Point well taken.

Yea, mono is abrasion friendly compared to braid. Under tension braid will cut real easlity compared to mono as well.

Distance casting, you can hit better distance with braid under comparible line tests I think.
Braid, less stretch = greater sensibilty. At long distance, its better for setting the hook but is not forgiving, it can pull a hook easy as well. It is good for deep drop fishing as currents dont effect it as much as thicker mono in the same pound test, again with less stretch down deep.
Braid will cut mono-Hence why briad is frowned upon when fishing in crowds like the point in Hatty. It also causes bad tangles and can cut waders and legs in crowds with fish on.

I like it when spanish fishing; throwing metal like 2 to 3 ounce glassminnows.
