Mr. Rocks&Reds,
The next time you decide to educate a person on the rules of the outer banks and the consent decree I suggest you heed your own advice and “read the rules before you come on the beach”. As much as I can appreciate your passion for free and open access to the Outer banks, I must say your threatening demeanor and display of aggression in front of your kids was disheartening. In addition suggesting “I wish they would bust you’re a$$”, would do nothing more then tip the scales even further against us. So I am unsure where you were going with that statement other then continuing to act like a jerk.
I believe it would be in the best interest of yourself, your short round friend, and the rest of us in the fight for access to inform people whom you suspect of violating an enclosure, by explaining to them how their ignorance can be detrimental to every one. You will get your point across much more clearly and you listener may even take your words into consideration as opposed to thinking you are the biggest A-hole on the beach. It would also be in your best interest to be more observant in what is and is not closed prior to addressing someone with your chest pounding my beach attitude. As per the on duty park service ranger, who looked at me like I was a moron for asking, the road I took was in fact open for ORV travel. I sure hope he stopped by to let you know this on his way out as I suggested he do. Closed areas are well marked. Closed roads are roped off.
Lastly please apologize to your kids for me. As if I had known that turning around and coming back to you two waving at me, they would have not had to see the brilliant display of intellect you so eloquently expressed. Upon realizing my mistake, and seeing them coming closer to the “discussion” I simply replied “OK” and backed up and was on my way. I would like to thank you though, you did manage to bring a smile to my face and made the slow mid day fishing more enjoyable. Some people just don’t get it! Tight lines and catch em up!
To all others who may find the need to inform anyone who may knowingly or unknowingly violate a closure area please try to do it in a friednly informitve way as opposed to acting like a pompus a$$. And make sure that the area you are refering to is in fact closed.
