And it will remain out of control as long as the ESA provides for the payment of legal fees by the government (that'd be us) to groups suing under the Endangered Species Act.

If that one provision was removed from the ESA things would be a lot better. As it is right now, these enviro groups are making a business out of suing the government.

I'm all for protecting endangered species. As long as the species are actually endangered. Environmental groups aren't the best people to make that decision as they're a wee bit biased...they think any creature that isn't bipedal and hairless is endangered.

I'm thinking all of us who fish and drive on the beach are becoming an endangered species!

As much as I hate all this, I believe we are on a long term loser.

The reason I believe this is most people, even if they are not tree huggers, even if they are not against hunting, fishing, etc., ... most don't want to drive on the beach and so they don't care if the beaches get closed.

Some even think closing the beaches to traffic is good, and not for reasons related to animals. It's more something like "hey we wouldn't want cars driving on Old Faithful or up and down the sides of the Grand Canyon either".

I have several friends who agree with me on most everything... political, economic, etc. When I mentioned last year the beach closing issues and the push coming from the PETA types, they responded something like "well it's probably good... people shouldn't be taking cars out on the beaches anyway."

I was surprised to hear them say this.
