Gotta share this with ya.

I finished up my last day shift on Sunday night. Got hom around 7:10 pm. I have two dogs a boxer black lab and a full blood yellow lab. Anyway I get home and both dogs are happy to see me, or so I thought. The yellow, "Bo", is 2. He is like a buzz saw when I get home but he's laying on the floor not moving. I call him and he doesn't move. Then I see the MAJOR problem. He has one of my lures, with 2/0 Gamakatzu trebels through his lip and stuck to the carpet!!!!!!:eek::eek: Holy S**T!!!!!! Well at first I admit I panicked. Then I got out the old trusty Shimano Cutters and pulled the lure from the carpet. Now to deal with the lure. Bo had the lure stuck into his lip and into his lower chin. he wasn't cyin, or wimperin. He just had this look of FEAR in his eyes and was shaking like he was having a seizure. I took hold of his muzzle so he wouldn't shake or try to mess with the lure. I looked and it was just about through the lip. Very carefully I cut the hook and then pushed it through. At first I couldn't get it caue it was swellin up pretty good. I'm thinkin great the nearest Emergency Vet Hospital is a good 1/2 hour away. I have a small pair of neelde nose pliers that I grabbed the hook with and finally got it out. It was my fault cause I had left the lure and some others laying around. Bo is ok and sure did learn my lesson. Those of us who have pets, dogs or cats ya gotta watch and keep them lures up.

My cat got into some 2/0 circles that smelled of squid after I got back from the beach. He was whining and crying all over the place until we mixed some Benadryl in with his food to knock him out and performed a little surgery. On the plus side, the circles hooked him right in the corner of the mouth like they were supposed to.

Hey Guys, thanks for the heads up. We've not had out dachshund very long, and I hadn't even thought about hooks/lures! I have my fishin stuff in a room where he normally doesn't go, but I'll be sure it's above his level where he can't get into it.

RuddeDogg, I'm glad Bo's okay. Yeah, I guess the feller was scared to death!!! Mine would be forever traumatized from doing something like that.

Again, thanks - something I hadn't even given thought to! :)

Glad Bo is doing o.k.! How are you doing after all this? I know it had to scare to poop out of ya. It would have me! On a side note, do you have any extra hooks like that I can get from you for my cat!

When I was very young, probably 12 or less my dog Daizy got a hook off of a crab pot that still smelled like the chicken we had baited it with. Had it right through her poor tongue. Got it out of her by cutting the hook, there were many tears on my part while she was crying.

Long ago, after my dog had puppies, I came home to a gaggle of galoomping and happy pups...one with a 4oz bluefish spoon through his lower lip. Didn't seem to bother him any but I sure wasn't happy to see it. Dogs are like kids, they get into EVERYTHING.

Then there's always the problem of not keeping your puppies or kittens ON the hook while shark fishing. Squirrely litlle buggers.

My little lab LOVES treble hooks. I came in one day and found a blue 6" rig wheel splintered on the floor. Fortunately he hadn't got hooked yet, but it wasn't for lack of trying. He did get hold of a couple of #4 VMCs another day, but let go when he got jabbed. The funny thing is, these were up on the table, so he had to climb in the chair and push a bunch of stuff out of the way to get to them.

Glad your dog is okay.
Mine is a Benjitsu (chinese) and he likes to chase snakes and everything else in the yard. For some reason he will not go near my shop where I keep my fishing equip.
